Battlefield 1943 is a pretty good game considering it was only like $15 (1200 MS Points).

Pros:
*Immersive FPS action.
*Cheap.
*Alright graphics.
*Almost completely destructable environment.
*Ability to drive cars, tanks, boats, and planes.
*Ability to operate mounted machine guns and AA guns.
*24 player online multiplayer.

Cons:
*The sniper rifle sucks.
*Not too many maps.
*Only three classes to choose from.
*Spawning system sometimes puts you right in front of an enemy (or right behind them, which isn't so bad).

Anyone else got this game?

So it's just a dumbed-down Battlefield game correct?

That's why it's XBox Live Arcade. You expect for them to make a disk version of every >500MB game that comes out?

Yep.

Digital distribution is disgusting. Only World of Goo has made me overcome my hate for it enough to buy a WiiWare game.

Lots of rants about it.

The game is decent for $15. The connection issues that plagued it initially, though, were inexcusable for a multiplayer-only game.

Digital distribution is the future. HDs are getting bigger and cheaper, fast internet is getting more common, and people are lazy. Not to mention that disks can get lost, scratched, or broken. Also, playing off a HD is faster and generates less heat.

Honestly, I wish MS would hurry up and open that Game Store thing they showed off during E3. I'd never buy a game disk again unless I could find it significantly cheaper than the downloadable version.

And shit, if I went by your guide I would never get to play any games.

Have fun never buying used games or playing imports again.

And anyone who pays for DLC is simply retarded and I want them to fall down some stairs.

I see Slayer is posting something, but I'm too fucking tired to wait and read and respond.

So, here's my preemptive response:
Nuh-uh.

I play games to have fun, not to constantly worry about stupid bullshit that will have next to no impact on my life. If I see some fun DLC that I think is at the right price, I will buy it if I want to. If the game industry ever becomes as bad as you say it will, I will just stop playing video games (*gasp*).

Go fight the powa in another thread, this one is about Battlefield 1943.

They must have fixed that before I got it.

How long did the connection issues last? Unless it was over two or three days, it wouldn't matter much to me.

So question: how different is this game from Battlefield 1942?

Hideo Kojima once said, "war has changed".

But really, how much could war change in a year? :O

It is fixed now, but for the first two days it was literally impossible to connect to a match, and for a few days after there were many lingering bugs. It seems ok now though.

Bullshit. War never changes. Didn't he ever play Fallout?

Anyway, time to get serious with my post:

Battlefield 1943 comes across as a very dumbed-down Battlefield 1942, with the only thing even resembling an advantage being the new graphics engine.

Only three classes now? Unlimited clips for hand weapons (still need to reload, though)? Possible auto-heal? Only three maps?

I know it's a small digitally-distributed game we're talking about, but I sure as hell haven't been compelled to retire BF1942 + both expansions in the process. (And let's not even start on all the mods out there for BF1942, like most popular PC FPSs...)

Question for you Fragger, I was talking to my friend about 1942 (I have never played it) and he told me about the expansion Secret Weapons of the WW2 or something like that. Anyways he told me about an aircraft of the nazis that resembles the stealth fighter that the US has right now, does it really have it?

I remember watching a documentary about it on the History Channel, and I just thought it would be awesome to use. :P

I don't know what you mean, maybe except for the Horton-designed flying wing aircraft that is in the game, which the F-117 does vaguely resemble in terms of overall design except for those tail fins. (You're much more likely to see the Natter rocket plane for the Axis and the Goblin for the Allies, though.)

There's also a flying saucer/UFO-ish aircraft (kind of round and flat with some propellers in the middle, and a cockpit off to the side somewhere; NOT the Heinkel Lerche) that's another Nazi prototype, but it's only scenery in-game; you can't pilot it. (Maybe a mod has corrected that, though...)

And, while not a vehicle per se, some Secret Weapons maps have a few jetpack kits lying around. Once you pick one up, you can indulge in being a virtual Rocketeer, though you'll have to be content with the included MG42, stick grenades, pistol, and knife (knives?). Take care not to lose it to the enemy, though-only a finite amount seem to ever be in circulation on a given map, and you CANNOT spawn with the jetpack. (Then again, maybe a mod has fixed that too-perhaps with jetpacks for all the standard classes! Tribes 1942, anyone?)

...Come to think of it, we should try to have a BF1942 session amongst us members of The Board, if anyone else owns it. (It's been a while since I played it myself.)

I have it lying around somewhere. The community for that game is dead as fuck, so I also haven't played it in forever.

But I might be down.
