Hm. Interesting. It would seem this Noriko person was one to study others and internalize quite a bit to herself. In that regard they shared something in common. What exactly was circulating through her brain, of course, was beyond Tenji's knowledge. However, the obvious signs of gears turning behind her eyes were as clear as day to Tenji. Reading people. There were few who did it better than him... whether they were base like Kazuko or complex like himself. Regardless, it was clear the new commodore was going to find him suspicious for quite some time... not that it was anything new to him. Practically everyone found him suspicious. The fact that nothing suspicious had ever been completely connected to him only seemed to make him more suspicious.

Still, Tenji always found it amusing to see first reactions to him. The more cautious, the more amused he was. And at this point, Tenji's charming smirk was replaced with something far more condescending as he exhaled some cigarette smoke through his nostrils. He couldn't help it. The fact that those even at such positions of power appeared wary of him oddly calmed him. If they could be shaken, they could be manipulated. Not that Tenji was considering doing such a thing to the commodore. But, having such knowledge of the possibility was always good to have... just in case.

“Then again, it does seem like a trivial thing to bother you with, Mizushi."

"Whatever you feel is most wise I shall certainly support you," Tenji graciously replied with a slight bow of his head and a toast to her made with the cigarette in his left hand. "And I am sure if it is a task you assign there is nothing 'trivial' about it. You shall always honor me with any request for assistance."

Thankfully, it appeared this woman could be reasoned with. The chances of this being a pleasant working relationship were growing by the second. Of course, there was no telling what she might end up sending him on, but at least she thought well enough about him to take his protest into consideration. That said, she did not appear to be one to hold unnecessary or petty grudges. Then again, Tenji could not be absolutely sure about anything regarding this woman. Being where she came from, any information about her was scarce, at best. For now, he would simply have to dance with her. Who knows? They may end up becoming fantastic partners.

At that moment, though, Tenji's ears nearly felt like they had caught fire. As his eyes turned toward the harpy and her unfortunate subordinate he immediately knew why. Boy, did Kazuko ever dislike snakey Tenji, eh? Then again, her "interest" could be seen as hidden attraction were one's ego inflated enough and Tenji's certainly was... Or, at least, he pretended it was in order to irritate the harpy all the more. In order to maintain his appearance of being oblivious, he raised his glass to the duo from across the room and took a sip. A small smirk formed as he noticed Kazuko already showing signs of enjoying the finer things. Perhaps the mongrel could be housebroken after all.

"Hm," Tenji uttered with a strong sense of amusement before returning his attention back to his superior. "If it pleases you, Most Honorable Commodore, perhaps we could hold a planning session in my war room sometime soon, hm? I would feel more comfortable continuing this conversation where security can be assured. I shall be sure Dearest Rin makes all the necessary arrangements should you accept."

The tone was certainly respectful but the edge to his words were enough to where someone like Noriko could clearly catch his meaning: He didn't fucking trust a number of the "guests" here, especially considering how the previous Commodore died on their home turf. Of course, it could all be bluff and his aim is simply lure her to his division home for a private encounter for either pleasure or assassination. He is one with a suspicious aura to him, after all...

OH MY GOD CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK YAY!! the newly appointed vice captain of the 13th, clear by the insignia worn around his left sleeve.grabbed two sliced of the cake resting a table in a corner near where Kazu, Shinsara, and Setsuai were standing. "OM NOM NOM CAAAAAAAAAKE!!" Iiase said with a mouthfull as he twirled and skipped about the chamber towards the gathered trio. Spotting Kazu he spun behind her then, craning on his tiptoes he put up two fingers in the bunny ears symbol then began to giggle like a little girl before spinning away towards Setsuai. With her he looked perplexed, "Why are you so grumpy frumpy... SMILE!!" and with plate of cake in his mouth he force her face into a smile with his cake laiden fingers. "Better... see... smile MORE BE HAPPY!!" he took his fingers away and finished eating his cake and skipped about the gathered three. He cartwheeled and spun and eventually settled on resting on one hand in a handstand.

"Whatareyoutalkingabout huuuuuuh, is it something... SOMETHING... captain Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaizen-sama should know about?" he paused and looked them over. "It is It IS, tell me tell me tell me... what is it what iiiiiiiiiiiis it?" he whinned in his girlish voice. He looked the group over, "Oh OH you're Kaaaaaaaaaaaazuzu, I heard of you, you're like woooooooooosh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang ninjay and all woosh woosh sneaky and swosh wosh AWESOME YAY KAZU!!" he spun on his hand and faced them again. Iiase pointed at the other two, "But I dun know you two, you must suck uck yuck MUCK!!" once more he spun on his hands. "Kazuzuzu dontcha dontcha have a partner... whatwashisname again... rinji... hinji... no no... ITCHY!! WHAR IS ITCHY ITCHY!!??" another spin and he switched hands and spun again. "Hehe" he giggled again. "Kazuzu, you, Itchy, and Raizen-sama are famous FAMOUS! New commodore is unknown unknown...." he righted himself once more and placed his hands on his hips, "Kazuzu should be commodore, lots of fun, NINJA NINJA woosh woosh swooooooosh!"

In the wake of her slightly embarrassing introduction to the Commodore, the 7th's Vice-Captain seemed to have forgotten the senior Shinigami was present, much less speaking to her, entirely. Her attention moved about the hall, scanning the other tables and watching the other officers speak. Though her eyes occasionally fell in front of her again, back on Commodore Noriko, it was for fractions of a moment at a time and with a look of mixed curiosity and... something else, something more difficult to place, but something that certainly had no business in the presence of the Commodore's rank.

When Tenji assured the Commodore that Rin would make all the necessary arrangements, she chuckled and plucked his cigarette from his grip, taking a slow drag before putting it back in its proper place. "The Commodore is, naturally, always welcome to Seventh Division's hospitality," Rin's first foray into the exchange seemed to be directed toward Tenji Mizushi as opposed to Commodore Noriko herself, as if assuring the Captain that he hadn't misspoken.

It also seemed like he was something of a mind reader. One second she was busy with reminding herself of his Division speciality and what exactly being the tactics Captain entailed, and how it related to her and the movements of the Gotei as a whole. The next he was offering to host a private discussion in his ‘war room.’ Noriko considered it quietly to herself, as she did with most things. Despite her apparent pondering of the idea, she had already decided to take the man up on his offer. If not only to make sure he was doing his job correctly. Captains seemed to be the laziest of all Shinigami, which was understandable really. They had already reached their peak in their career, they had very little to work towards other than maintaining the high standard that had seen them promoted to such a seat.

Noriko didn’t need any lazy Captains on her watch. In her honest opinion, it was largely their fault that the Gotei has stumbled so often.

As with bone idle Captains, she didn’t need mentally unhinged Vice-Captains. Noriko’s attention was stolen briefly by the lunatic mutterings and acrobatics of the 13th Division Vice. Despite her efforts, her shielded eyes couldn’t find the boys Captain and thusly, handler, anywhere in the room. That was a shame. Mostly though, it was disrespectful to the new Commodore. She gave the Vice a scolding glance before turning her attention back to the two decidedly, sedate 7th Divisioners.

Noriko, as sharp as she was, caught the Captains meaning. With the death of Tatti it had become abundantly clear that these walls had ears, eyes and back stabbing tendencies. Such a fact was one of the prime reasons Noriko had been selected to take the mans place, she had such a keen judge of character and an unwavering ability to weed out the rats.

While she was thankful for the Vice-Captains assurance that Noriko would be welcome in the 7th Division house, she really didn’t need to be invited twice.

“Sounds preferable. I wouldn’t be entirely comfortable discussing such tentative things in an uncontrolled environment.” Public events were hardly the best place to go into detail about the cards you had up your sleeve, and Noriko knew it just as well as Tenji did. She was Commodore, yes, powerful, yes, but she didn’t want to over exert herself by whipping the entire room into shape. However, she’d have relative difficulty with Tenji and his subordinate.

But he wasn’t a rat. He just had all the qualities of one.

“Well, if you set a time and a date, I’ll be sure to arrive.” Though they were comrades, Noriko could gauge that any battle between them would be one of wits. Such a fact warmed her soul.

She never lost at those.

To be honest, Noriko was already thinking this through way more than Tenji. Where Noriko appeared to be aiming for mental dominance in a polite marathon, Tenji simply did so for his own amusement in brief sprints. He never kept score (because he always won), he simply enjoyed the effort behind it. Then again, he never exactly had a mental rival amongst his comrades. Seriously, take a good look at who Tenji regularly worked with. Most of them were barely a step above climbing trees and throwing their feces at people.

As for him being lazy... well, she was certainly going to loathe Tenji eventually if she ever figured out his nature. There was likely no one more lethargic than the tactics captain and his vice captain could surely attest to that. In fact, if he was left alone for about thirty seconds right now, he'd likely fall asleep. The Shinigami needed constant monitoring to stay motivated and on topic. How he managed to function at all was likely a mystery even to Rin. Perhaps it was due to his incredible genius that constantly made him mentally weary. Likely not. But there was certainly something that caused it. No one is naturally this slothful.

Still, to his credit, he did what he did very well. You see, Tenji isn't lazy in that he actively tries to avoid work because he simply wants to goof off and have fun. He's just so goddamn tired all the time that he can barely stand being awake, let alone doing anything that requires a good amount of effort. A minor difference, yes, but a key one, Tenji would say. It was not a matter of a lack of conviction but a physical abnormality. Self-induced abnormality, yes, but one nonetheless.

And as with likely everyone in the damn room, Tenji's attention was stolen by the buffoon vice captain of the Thirteenth Division. Fortunately for that fellow, he was nowhere near Tenji, otherwise he'd request Rin to kill the incompetent. Chances are it would be far more merciful to however Kazuko would react, though. But, being the harpy she is, she might actually appreciate the fool's behavior. Then again, he is also upstaging her and is Raizen's underling, both of which did not equal out well in the Shinigami's favor. Regardless, Raizen, too, should be marked for allowing this disgrace to make such a scene.

"Sounds preferable. I wouldn’t be entirely comfortable discussing such tentative things in an uncontrolled environment ... Well, if you set a time and a date, I’ll be sure to arrive.””

Again, Tenji's lethargy puts him at a social disadvantage. But one does not live with such a disadvantage without knowing how to compensate. You see, the captain never knew what he was supposed to do ten seconds from now. Were it not for Rin keeping him on schedule, he would likely do absolutely nothing. Why was this an issue? Because Tenji had absolutely no idea when he was free to host a meeting. But, he was clever enough to know how to dance around the issue and make him seem more important at the same time! Oh, what a cunning layabout he was.

"Surely," Tenji kindly replied before blandly looking in Rin's direction, though not entirely making it. "Dearest Rin, would you please mark a space of time for the Most Honorable Commodore to visit when I am most available within the next two days? Thank you."

And just like that, Tenji both appeared to be on top of things AND super duper busy at all times. Now, all that it would take is for his trusty sidekick to fill in the rest of the details and then remind him several times when the meeting with Noriko would happen... and then once before a good thirty minutes before Noriko was to actually arrive... and then likely once more again right before.

Tenji's 'Trusty Sidekick' chuckled, quelling the laugh against her wrist only when it extended longer than she figured was common for a chuckle*. The expression on her face was one of clear contempt for Tenji and his scheduling needs, but she deigned to consider the query nonetheless, presenting the image of a woman that had to work to figure something into his day.

"For such an important guest, Mizushi can make himself available tomorrow afternoon... After mid-day tea, if this is acceptable for you, Commodore?" Rin, perhaps rudely, continued looking to her Captain instead of the conversant she was clearly addressing then, wearing an amused look on her face, as if something the Captain had done was extremely funny, and when her eyes did land on Noriko again, sometime after she'd finished speaking to her, something about Rin's look seemed to imply that the other woman had missed the joke. Whatever exactly the joke had been.

* Length of average chuckle severely over-estimated.

Mitsunari

Mitsunari smiled to himself as he watched Kazuko 'settle in' to her restored role. "Nice to see she hasn't lost her touch..." He breathed to himself as he made his way through the crowd towards the food. He looked at the guy next to him as he grabbed a few morsels, throwing them onto a plate he had picked up earlier. The thirteenth fukutaichou, which one was that. His eyes followed the man's deranged movements as he bounded and twirled towards Kazuko and her Vice captain. "Oh shit..." He mumbled as he remembered who the man was, a look of horror crossing his face. Hopefully the vice captain would be lucky and Youkai would find him amusing if not... well, looks like it was his job to save the poor fool. He sighed and trudged over towards the second captain and the others. "Congratulations on your... promotion? or return? I dunno, anyway, it's good to see you back where you belong Captain Youkai... well kinda..." He stated graciously, bowing as he entered the conversation. He looked over to the commodore for a moment. "I think you're better qualified personally. She doesn't seem like much of a leader... ah I'm getting sidetracked, anyway it's good to see you again." He continued, adjusting his headband, kicking at the 13th vice captain's shin as he did so. "And please, just ignore this fool..." He finished, cocking his head in Iiase's direction to indicate who he meant. "He's... unstable at best, hell of a fighter though. Well, I hope you enjoy the rest of the party Kazuko-senpai. Come on Iiase-san, there's some more cake over here." He muttered, grabbing the back of the man's kosode to guide him away from the potential beating, giving Kazuko a somewhat apologetic look as he turned. Hopefully he had averted the worst of her wrath.

" NO NO BAD SIXIE MAN!!" Iiase dodged the kick to his shin via a convient jump he had made. When Mitsunari tried to grab his collar he spun out of the way and his foot collided with the back of the man's head, on acident of course. "YAY YAY KAZUZU LETS PLAY LETS PLAY... KEEP AWAY KEEP AWAY!!" he spun and flipped over her head and with one deft motion removed her top which had the unfortunate side effect of leaving the second captain topless. "You chase, I RUUUUN, It'll be Fun Fun FUUUUN!!" Iiase proceeded to bound into the air and hop on to the heads of some some of the nobles present only to bound up the balacony and bounce off. He landed on Tenji's head and sprung up doing a perfect triple flip midair and landing into the crowd of people who were confused as hell as to what was going on. Ah such were the musings of a childlike shinigami.

Kazuko didn’t need the 13th’s resident loon to remind her that there was cake at his proceeding, all the time she had been standing giving Setsooeye some golden advice, she had been sipping on her wine with one hand and filling the pockets of her crisp new Captains robe with the other. Now, it wasn’t really her calling to handle mentally retarded Shinigami, but she didn’t want to give those in the room any more reason to think less of her, so she took a deep breath and counted to ten while the boy leaped and skipped around in that irritating way. She used Setsooeye’s unwavering sour expression as a focus point to get her through this hardship. Well, she had to hand it to the kid, his incessant babbling really got him noticed. Kazuko would use that tactic herself if it didn’t collide with her habit of shutting such incessant babblers down. This babbler talked a little sense though, about how Kazu was famous and how she should be the one heading the Gotei. Well, she’d like the offer, but only to turn it down.

It wasn’t before long that another Vice appeared to try and catch a handle on the bouncing Iiase. Kazuko grunted slightly at his words, why was everyone rushing to congratulate her now? Psh, she was over the whole reinstatement thing, all she wanted to do was get on with it and make it out of these main chambers with as much cake and free nibbles as humanly possible. Didn’t seem like a leader?

“What do you mean?! She’s got that greater than thou’, self-importance shit down to the fucking T!” A more tactful person might say such things in a hushed whisper, but Kazuko generally said what she was thinking. You couldn’t fault her for that. Besides the haughty little madam had welcomed Kazuko into her ranks with a snide comment. Kazuko would return the favour.

Play?…

Counting to ten wouldn’t help Kazuko this time, hell, counting to one hundred would do nothing to put a dent in the rage that was quickly bubbling up inside her. It kept her warm in the absence of her bikini top. Mitsunari couldn’t save that little fucker anymore, no one could. There was no excuse for the kids behaviour, being mentally unstable was no pardon for his actions and no amount of skipping and jumping was going to save him from her wrath.

Kazuko didn’t chase after him in the same manner. Instead, she barrelled through the crowd of people, knocking people over left right and centre, the speed of her movements barring any clear sight of her. When she caught up with him she grabbed the little fuck by the forehead. Yes. By the forehead. Spun on one leg and flung him head first into the nearest marble pillar. He might get his head stuck in it, but he wouldn’t die from the blow and she was pretty damn sure it wouldn’t make him any more crazy than he already was.

With that taken care of, Kazuko straightened herself out, each side of her Captain’s robe conveniently placed to keep from giving the whole room an eye full of her assets.

“Right. Well. Think I did what I came here to do…you know where I’ll be. Unless you’re a moron.” With that, she made her way to and through the main doors, vacating the premises.

She's a lot bettern than Raizen said... Iiase chuckled as he flew through the air and landed on the pillar with his feet before bouncing off and landing with grace. Despite Kazu's well aimed throw it was damn hard to really hurt the little guy with anything short of patience and a good plan. Barreling through and thinking you could monster agaisnt him was a pointless and wasted tactic. Despite his goofty antics Iiase's gears were indeed turning. As he landed he sighed and dusted himself off, "YAAAAAAAAY TAHT WAS FUN FUN!!" before skipping and twisting out of the chamber. He had somewhere else he needed to head, or head off. You know? Just in case. You never know where wandering eyes and ears might go to. Thus Iiase exited and took a different route than Kazu to make sure the woman had thought she tasted victory.

What machinations were turning in that head of his?

Mitsunari

Mitsunari struggled to contain a laugh at Kazuko's response to his comments. "Yeah, I guess but you know what I-" He was cut off in mid-sentence as something hit the back of his head. He turned to glare at Iiase- and likely punch the 13th vice's lights out, only to realise that the boy's twisted movements had carried him back round to Kazuko. His eyes widened and a thin trickle of blood ran from his nose as he saw what unfolded in front of him. Suddenly he felt almost sorry for that wretch. "Well, looks like Raizen's gonna need a new vice..." He smirked as Kazuko caught the vice captain and flung him at a pillar before storming out. His smile quickly disappeared however as Iiase simply bounced off of the pillar and skipped nonchalantly out of the room. Glaring around the room Mitsunari slowly wiped the blood away and made his way towards Tenji. "So. How long do you think. he'll last now?" He whispered next to the seventh captain.
