Things were pretty crazy in Seireitei. Central 46 had yet to step up and actually reach a consensus, and with the Commodore dead that had left the most powerful force in Seireitei - the Gotei 13 - quite confused. The Divisions were being kept in check mainly by their Captains - but what of those Divisions without a Captain? Their leaders were surely far less experienced, but were such Divisions crumbling? Certainly not. Stood atop a building not far from Karakura's largest and most lucrative Hospital was the acting Captain of the Second Division - Vice-Captain Hiako Setsuai. Her hair was tied up expertly, doing nothing more than quivering slightly in the mid-morning breeze. For almost the entire duration of her time as a seated member of the Gotei 13, Setsuai had been acting as Captain for her Division. She was also the Commander of the Onmitsukidou - the Special Forces, linked only to the Gotei by their association with the Second Division. She had been the sole leader of these two groups for around nine years and was doing an admirable job, for a Vice-Captain. Glancing out towards the Hospital, Setsuai began to ponder - an admittedly strange occurrence in the mind of the normally stoic Vice-Captain. Why had the humans decided to cast off their Shinigami protectors? Surely they understood that the Shinigami's ability to perform soul burial and help lost souls move on would only serve to decrease the level of Hollow wandering Karakura town? As far as she was aware, the Humans were not able to purify Hollow or save Plus from their fate. So then why? It didn't make any sense. Then again, her place wasn't to muse on the intentions of the Humans - she was simply trying to do her job to the best of her ability. Edited by Astral, Aug 1 2010, 04:31 PM.

His walk from Kazinji's took him farther than he expected. Tenji was quite the wanderer, though. So much that he practically (though completely unintentionally) had just about every last inch of Soul Society mapped out and recorded to memory after centuries of aimlessly strolling about. The great thing about being a captain is most people tend to leave you the hell alone when you're out for a stroll as they assume you must be doing something incredibly important. Then again, the former leader of the assassination squad tended to put most ill at ease when seeing him approach. Tenji has had rumors circulating around him ever since he took over the Seventh Division right after the previous captain "suddenly decided to commit suicide." So the caution was warranted. Perhaps it was nostalgia that kept him about the proximity of the female de facto Onmitsukidō commander. It was once his squad after all... though that was ages ago. Word was his replacement was terribly subpar and was eventually exiled. This poor girl must be Tenji's replacement's replacement. A slight smirk crept upon his face, turning the cigarette between his lips upwards as he looked up to the rooftop where he sensed the vice captainess was standing. Tenji, of course, was still in his gigai that surpressed his reiatsu and he seemed like any other average human... save for the fact he appeared to be looking directly in the direction of a spiritual being who was atop the building as he stood on the sidewalk way below. Still in his dated, though finely-made suit, he tipped his bowler hat in the general direction of Hiako. Whether it would go noticed or not remained to be seen. "Ah... the life of the dutiful second-in-command," Tenji uttered to himself as he flung his cigarette butt away only to immediately reload a fresh one between his lips. "So much tedium..." Tenji could barely remember his days in the Onmitsukidō. He most often worked at the Maggot's Nest. His hand-to-hand skills made him a prime candidate to serve as warden. The captain wondered if some of the inmates he once knew were still alive... and if those he had to deal with were still referred to as being "Tenji'd." How could you tell which inmates were Tenji'd? Well, they all had pig noses due to receiving devastating palm thrusts under the noses to subdue them. That's how Tenji handled the unruly ones on his watch. The captain learned that unruly inmates will risk injury to attack him, but they all seemed collectively less willing to upon risk of becoming permanently disfigured. A broken arm can heal but a pig nose is forever. A quick drag of his new cigarette and exhale of smoke through his nostrils came and Tenji resumed his lazy stroll. He had no intention of bothering the vice captain, though he did have an idea who he would send to bother her. Rin really should meet some of her fellow vice captains. Perhaps this one could become her pal. Or, at the least, keep the face-painted banshee out of his hair a little more often so he could enjoy some peace and quite from time to time.
