How to associate file types for 7-zip

This is a windows process, and as I use XP, my instructions will be for XP. If you use Vista they should be similar. If you find something you don't understand, let me know.
Go to the lower left corner of your Windows Desktop screen and click on the green Start
On the list that pops up find settings, as you move you mouse over it, another list should appear to the right. find and click on Control Panel

A new window will pop up. At the top, just below the blue bar, find and click on tools. A window should drop down, the last item on the list should be 'Folder Options'

Again just under the blue bar, click on 'File Types'

Scroll down to find 7z - click on it - it should turn blue.

Look below for 'Details for 7z Extension and click on the change box

If 7-zip is installed, it should show under the recommended file types. click on it to set it as the program to open 7z type files. Then look below, find the check box with the label Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. click on the box - there should be green check mark in the box.

If you want 7-Zip to also open for Winrar and winzip, (Recommended) scroll down the list, find them and change them just like you did for 7z. winzip files will be .zip, winrar filew will be .rar

Now go to the bottom of the window and click on the OK box.

Now any file that is compressed with z-zip will automatically run the 7-zip program to allow you to unzip the files.
