I didn't have a lot of time to work with my own system yesterday as I was building a new computer for my ex brother in law. He brought over a system earlier this week for me to look at. The Power supply was dead and the hard drive ( 8MB!) locked up tight. I ordered parts & built him a new sys. It's a low end as all he does on it is surf the internet. But the MB/processor combo I got for him was 64 bit. So I put WIN7 x64 on it. It loaded right up - as I used the same Disk as for mine, again it wanted a x32 key code instead of x64 - I got him a new one instead of using the same key cods as my sys. Everything went together quickly and within 2 hours of the UPS delivery it was running. My cost for parts, including shipping US $270. I put Avira anti virus and Open Office on it also. His wife came over with him to pick it up. I showed her that the new DVD burner I put in could be used to burn music CDs. So Maybe she will be using it some now.

On my own sys, I copied over my old Oblivion stuff. The new file structure threw me for a few minutes. When I installed Oblivion, I specified C:\Games. and that is exactly where it is - Not C:\Oblivion|Games\data, but C:\Games\data. To keep from confusing myself, I renamed the C:Games to C:\Oblivion and copied all of my \Data into it. then copied over the dlls for OBSE into C:\Oblivion. I reinstalled the OBSE as I wasn't sure if it put anything in the registry or not.

Again, when I went to copy over the saves and Oblivion.ini from the old location C: (now G:)\Documents and settings\...\to the new drive, I of course attempted to put it into Documents and settings... and was told I did not have permission to access that folder. After some head scratching - and a few appropriate words directed at MS, I found the new location is C:\users\my name\my games\Oblivion. Similar but enough different to give me a problem.

On starting OBMM, most of my OMODs showed up either black or red (major conflicts). I should have deactivated them before starting the upgrade. I fixed it by double clicking each one to install it, then standing on the enter button to allow overwriting all meshes etc. Then after all were blue (OK) again, I had to reorder my load list - I had a recient back up to go by, mainly based on BOSS with a few custom changes, It started and ran from my last save #2097. I played without turning anything off for about 2 hours. If anything it runs smoother and I did not have any crashes. While I was playing A Skype call came in without crashing the game, however, as I was playing in full screen mode, I had to save and exit the game to take the call.

As My original Sound board did not work due to no drivers available, I have switched back to the on board audio, It works fine for now. I play the game using my speakers, and Skype using my headset. I will try playing in window mode to see if that works any better than it did under XP.
