Pinkys and Scales?

I've been playing the piano for about a year and a half now (having played the drums for about ten years prior). I was in self-study for a year, but I've since gone to a teacher. It's been remarkable, but I've been having a problem--my pinky fingers tend to wave about when they're not in use while I play, and they seem to make an extra, unnecessary motion backwards whenever I use them. It doesn't mess up my timing when playing with them, but I feel like it really unbalances my hand, especially when playing scales, when they're not really in use so they just wave about the whole time. Does anyone know of some exercises I could do to help them stay in line with my other fingers while I play? Naturally I play with curved, but not over-curved fingers, and my hands are rather small (I can hit an octave comfortably, major 9th if I stretch), it that makes any difference.

On the topic of scales, I was playing my major scales evenly at 110 BPM about two weeks ago. All of a sudden, I've gotten really inaccurate and sloppy, and can't play them faster than 80 BPM without making mistakes...I think it might relate to the pinky issue, it's always been present, but I think with an increase in velocity came an increase in the harm it does...How should I practice my scales so that I can get them back up to speed with precision and even tone? I was doing some high fingers work before playing them legato, but I'm thinking that's not enough...

Thank you! It's my first time posting in the forum downloading many wonderful sheets.
