Playing with your arm weight?

Hey there. I've been playing piano for 9 years, but I've only came across the method of using your "arm weight" just recently. Though..i find this a difficult task to perform.

For me, it is only possibly to use it with pieces that usually have a tempo around 120-140.
But, but i start trying to apply it to faster songs of more difficulty like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement, my forearm just tenses up, and it becomes much MUCH harder to play.

Any tips or suggestions?

my teacher used to tell us to "relax" and "make your arms and hands lighter"
You are where you are and what you are because of your own choices and decisions.

using your arm weight is very helpful in bringing out the dynamics of a piece. you need to be careful you get to tense though. my old piano teacher would make me practice just letting my arm drop. hold your forearm, let go and just let your arm drop. it helped me hope it helps you.

I think playing with arm weight is wrong. You MUST play with your fingers, you just need more practice.
Professional pianists didn't use arm weight at XVIII century.

Fingers are the primary movers of the key, but the arm is an efficient way to shape dynamics. Arm weight doesn't mean pulling/pushing down with the arm- it's just relaxed. The arm moves through the key more with the finger.
