Welcome to The Game of Thrones online strategy game! You will start by creating an empire, by choosing from one of several unique factions.

The seven playable factions in The Game of Thrones are:

Martel
Stark
Lannister
Tyrell
Baratheon
Tully
Arynn

Each faction is set apart from each other via one or two special units. These units vary from faction to faction, and are considered your faction's elite soldiers. All standard units can be bought from a universal stockpile. Units are bought with Golden Dragons, the form of currency in The Game of Thrones. Siege weapons are also available to all factions.

Starting Out

Each player starts out with 2000 GD and a single capital city surrounded by walls.

Laying Claim

To claim an NPC city you must Lay Claim to it. Laying Claim is a simple process; you must merely make a topic within the Laying Claim forum stating which city you wish to claim. Claiming a city takes 3 days, and you can ONLY do so 3 times a week; each week on Friday the number of times you can lay claim will be reset. Laying Claim also costs 50 Golden Dragons. You may only Lay Claim to cities connected to your own.

Attacking and Defending

Attacking and defending are both the main part of The Game of Thrones. You will only attack other characters; to claim NPC cities you must Lay Claim.

Attacking Guidelines:
When attacking, you must declare the city you wish to attack, post your attacking army, the movement cost of that army, and whether you wish to besiege or attack the city.
1) Declare the city you wish to attack: This is simple and easy. If your city borders the city you wish to attack, then you may attack it.
2) Post you attacking army: Obviously, you post the battalions you wish to attack with; you cannot attack with battalions you do not post.
3) Post the movement cost: Each battalion has a set movement cost. Add the total movement cost for each battalion, and you come up with your total movement cost.
4) Attack or Besiege: Each has its advantages.

Attacking
When you attack another player, they have 4 days to post their defenses or you get their city automatically. You also have the option to withdraw your force. Retreating from an attack has no additional costs if the defender has yet to post their defenses; if defenses have already been posted you must pay your initial movement cost*2 to retreat.

Besieging
Besieging is an option available only when you have 3 or more siege weapons. Besieging provides benefits to both the attacker and defender, but has repercussions for each as well. When a city is besieged the defender must pay unit cost*2 for all of their units, and are unable to retreat from the battle. However, they have 6 days to post their defenses. The attacker may retreat, but at *4 the initial movement cost.

Defending Guidelines:
Defending is a bit easier (in a way) than attacking. You do not have to post a topic, since the attacker already has. You will only be attacked by other players. When defending, you must post your defenses within 4 days (if the enemy is attacking) or 6 days (if they are besieging). If the enemy is besieging, the cost for you to buy battalions is double. You may not retreat when being besieged either. You may still receive tributes and trade with other players.
1) Post your defenses: Just like with attacking, you must post the battalions you wish to defend with. You can only use the battalions that you post in the battle.
2) Calculate the movement cost of all your battalions added together-yes, there is a movement cost when defending. This is because it still takes money to supply and feed your troops.

The Battle
In the attacker's first post, they will ONLY post their battalions and movement cost; the first RPing post goes to the defender. It's up for the defender to set the terrain. Use the terrain to your advantage to win the battle.

Battles are ROLEPLAYED out, meaning that the victor will not always be determined by the number of units, although having more units just gives you an advantage.

So, how are battles truly won? The victor is determined not by who actually wins in the role-playing battle, but by a) the skill of the RPer and B) actual fairness; you're NOT going to win with five men-at-arms if your opponent has two hundred no matter how good your strategy.

Also, here's something that might be confused frequently; ONLY your capital city starts out with walls; all other cities DO NOT have walls. Walls can be purchased by everyone as an upgrade to your other cities. If you take another person's capital, you will also gain the benefit of their walls as well.

Player vs. Player battles will last 5 posts each. However, whenever a player's capital is involved, the battle will last 8 posts each. Posting your attack/defenses does not count as a battle post. If an attacker/defender fails to post for an extended amount of time, the...
-attacker will lose the units they attacked with
-defender will lose control of their city and units they defended with

So who decides the victor? Mods/Admins will vote on the victor and decide accordingly.

Retreating
Retreats are also role-played out. To retreat from a battle it costs your initial movement cost*2. Both attacker and defender can retreat from a regular attack. When a player is being besieged, however, the defender may not retreat and the attacker must pay initial movement cost*4.

Reinforcements
All players can call reinforcements to their aid when in battle. Reinforcements must come from units you already have; they will join the battle immediatly, but at movement cost *2.

Tag Team
Two players are able to attack a single enemy player. However, these two players must be allies. Also, the SECOND player on the allied team must play *2 movement cost, as well as have a city connected to the city being attacked (remember as an alliance you may jump through friendly player's cities). A defender can also have an ally assist them. You may have no more than a single ally assist you in battle. Tag team battles last a total of 16 posts.

Cities and Your Capital
The city at which you start becomes your capital. Your capital is the heart of your empire-if an enemy attacks your capital and you fail to defend it, then your empire crumbles to dust and you're out of the game until the next season.

So what happens when you attack an enemy’s capital and you get it? Do you get their lands? The answer is no, you don't get their lands. All of their cities turn NPC, except the capital you have just captured. All enemy capitals have walls.

Fortifying Your Cities
Fortifying your cities is a fairly simple process. When you fortify your city it gains a set of 30 foot high walls around it. Fortifications cost 800 GD p/city. To purchase fortifications post a topic in the Purchase Battalions forum, stating that you want to fortify a city, along with that city's name. All fortified cities will be marked in The Grand Library.

Alliances
Alliances are of large importance in The Game of Thrones. Without one, it is near impossible to win. Alliances can contain 2 to 4 members (this includes the alliance leader as well). Benefits of an alliance are...
1) Everyone in your alliance gets a personal alliance forum for only your viewing; formulate plans here and more without worry
2) You can leapfrog over your ally's cities. That means if you border an ally's city, you can travel through their city (or cities) free of charge, and attack cities on the other side.
3) You're working with other players; more minds are greater than one

Create a topic in the Alliances forum if you wish to start an alliance. Once you have at least one person (including yourself), send a personal message to The Gunslinger for your personal alliance forum.

Trading and Tributes
Trading and tributes make up a good part of the game. To trade, you must make a topic saying 'Trading with ___insert player name___' then, in the topic, list-
1) The battalions you wish to trade
2) The gold you wish to trade
3) The cities you wish to trade
4) The battalions you wish to receive
5) The gold you wish to receive
6) The cities you wish to receive
7) Who you're trading with

After you post all of these, you must wait for the player you are trading with to accept. Once they do, the trade will be approved by a Mod and information will be recorded in the library.
Tributes are just like trading, except that there doesn't have to be approval by the receiver. In the topic, list-
1) The battalions you wish to tribute
2) The gold you wish to tribute
3) The cities you wish to tribute

After you have posted, a Mod will approve the tribute. The tribute doesn't have to be approved by the receiver.

Purchasing Battalions
Sure, you start out with 2,000 GD to spend on battalions, and use for movement cost when attacking cities...but what happens when those battalions die in battle, or you need more to reinforce your army? You go to the Purchase Battalions forum! It's simple and easy to do, and all you have to do is list-
1) The battalions you wish to buy
2) The total cost of the battalions you wish to buy

Easy as that!

Income
You receive income based on the number of cities you have. You receive 500 GD per week from your capital, and 100 GD for each other city you have. Income is distributed ever Friday at approximately 8 PM (GMT -6h).

Iron Bank of Braavos
Need a little extra gold? Want to make some more money? Both can be done in the Iron Bank of Braavos.

Loans
Each player can withdraw up to 1500 GD from the Iron Bank at any time. The loan must be repayed within one month, however, at 1.2* the initial amount withdrawn (rounded to the nearest ten). If you fail to repay the debt within a month, the Iron Bank will begin liberating your cities at a rate of 1 city p/week until you repay them. The liberated cities will turn NPC and will not attack you. If only your capital is left, the Iron Bank will cease its action against you until you.

Deposits
Need a little extra gold? You can deposit Golden Dragons to earn interest at an increment of 500 GD. You will earn an extra 150 GD/500 GD every week from your deposit. Once you make a deposit it must stay in the bank for at least a week before you can withdraw it.

Coming Next Season:

Naval Battles
Port Cities
Purchasable Items
New Faction: Greyjoy
