The White Bull prepared to take the field leading his largest force to date. Donnell Grey had returned from his battle in the south unscathed and with his unit of Unsullied just recently. In the end they had been held off and he brought with him news of young Willas Flowers. He was still alive, but in the hold of Lord Cenedil of Dorne. The White Bull was glad to have Donnell back, as he could be assured that he would do an excellent job in command of his archers and the trebuchets. Anderson Flint had brought his forces, fresh off an easy victory in Honey Holt, and Luther had returned from his foraging with good news on their new weapon and tactic. One unit (50) of the Knights would be armed with the double curved bows in addition to their traditional swords for this battle. It would be good having the Young Bull, as he was known to the men, back in the fold. The White Bull could always count on him to command the reserve, and his timing from that position was always precise. It also allowed the White Bull to take up his favorite position at the head of the van, and for this battle he would surely be needed there. The reason for his need at the head of the van, was due to the fact that he would be using a unit that had never been used before by the forces of Oldtown, and for that matter one that he had never intended to use. Men-at-arms. The White Bull hated using men-at-arms, for while they often gave an advantage in numbers they were often lightly trained, lacked discipline, and almost as important costly to move. However, in this battle The White Bull believed that they would give him just the advantage he needed. The army had begun massing at The Eyrie for the attack. Many had traveled by boat, landing at Gulltown and traveling inward, while others had passed next to the Bloddy Gate while giving it a wide berth. The massing army had not been lost on the people of the Bloody Gate, still reeling from the devastation that had been handed out by the Butcher Lord Black. Correction, King Black as the usurping bastard had now begun referring to himself. The White Bull had known of the devastation, but what he had not realized was how the people would react to the news that his armies were now at the Eyrie preparing an attack. All of the men old enough to weild a weapon, and many men even now past their prime flocked to the camps pleading for an opportunity at vengeance. They had watched as their town was burned, children killed, women raped, and livestock slaughtered. It was not possible to feel hate more strongly than that which was felt by these men towards the Ironborn. And so the Bull had armed them, put them through some brief training, and promised them an opportunity to exact vengeance on the men they had been wronged by. These men of the gate would lead the van, and the White Bull would be their right beside them, fighting for everything that is right in Westeros against an enemy who encapsulates the epitome of evil. He led them to their homes ready to avenge the terrible losses they had suffered. But when they arrived they found the gate deserted. Their enemy had moved on to the north. Soon enough, thought the bull, I will meet these cravens in battle and the Ironmen will be extinguished from Westeros. The Bloody Gate is taken by the White Bull. Losses: None Grand Library will be updated. |
