New Season, New Board, New Rules; who wants to play?

Hey Guys,

Gunslinger and I have been working on a new approach to The Game of Thrones RPG, trying to figure out what would make the strategy element more fun since it hasn't changed much over the past seasons. We are almost finished with a new board which includes the following elements:

#1- No alliances: Since the game has a fairly small player base and because there is a tendency to end early, we figured that alliances are no longer needed. Plus, it makes for a lot more secret alliances and backstabbing

#2- Rewards for PVP: A lot of the time it seems much safer and more lucrative to just keep going after NPC cities rather than go for your fellow players. Therefore, we've added a few new rules to make player killing a good strategy

#3- Movement costs: Before, everyone's armies were sort of floating around ready to be used anywhere. In this season there will be costs and limitations to moving battalions. New units are bought at a player capital and have to be moved to adjacent cities. This means that players will have different armies on different fronts, meaning that new strategies can and must be used to make sure your forces aren't too spread out and make sure you can defend key cities. This also allows for new aggressive strategies like trying to sneak behind enemy lines and take him with his pants down.

These and other new rules lead to a much more interesting and complex game. Gunslinger and I think that the core group of players from the past seasons and newbies will all find it a fresh start and a ton of fun. I would love to see what the interest would be for a new season... who wants to play?

Hah, it is a lot of work, especially with the school year starting up. Honestly, its a lot of work to even play. But I am really excited about the movement cost/limitations. This adds a whole new element to the game, you need to really think about keeping a few separate armies on different fronts and keep track of what your defending and what your attacking with. You might have a huge number of battalions but have them so far away from your capital that it gets overrun in a sneak attack and you're out of the game. This new rule means that there is a lot more book keeping and minor rules to go along, but I think i've thought of most of them. We are also intending to make starting cash smaller so that people can't coast off of their initial capital all season; they have to start expanding to survive. Also, we want some sort of "prize" for winning... an incentive. Do you guys have any thoughts? Gunz has made the very good point that an in game reward would be unfair because it would lead to the same person winning too much. But perhaps an honorary title or something for the next season would be cool. idk, we'd like to see what you guys think

All in all, I think that the new rules work great with a relatively small number of players (around 10ish) who are experienced and enthusiastic. With our old veterans we have a bunch already, and there are always a few great players that start each season. Hopefully this season will be new enough that we're all out of our element a bit and start fresh

Ill be there. Also I like the sound of all of these changes as far as winning goes... hmmmm.... Ive always thought swords of legend would be fun to rp in battle with. Such as if I won I could say Cenedil acquire Dawn some way. Its not much but it's something I guess...

Thank Acheron, most of this new stuff was first thought up by him.

Anyways, in answer to an unasked question, when will it be ready? It'll be ready when it's done.

Cenedil, that's certainly a possibility, and something that I'll definitely take into consideration.

Absolutely love the idea of swords of legend.

Don't know if this is possible, but I also like the idea of no one getting the income for a city that is under attack until the battle has been completed, this might help discourage defenders from prolonging battles just so they can collect the income from a city for another week or two.

I Agree with White bull. Cities make their money through trade and such and if your under attack that trade would not be there.
Also i thought of some ideas for sea battles and units.

Transport boat: 350 gold dragons
Weak attack, can hold units up to 3 units

Long boat: 500 gold dragons
Normal attack, low movement cost, can hold units up to 2 units

Carrack: 1000 gold dragons
High attack, High armor, can hold up to 5 units.
