| The White Bull | Aug 17 2008, 08:48 PM Post #1 |

The ravens had come in quick succession and the White Bull was still in shock. 4 ravens in total, all carrying dark words on dark wings. 2 little arrows started it all. Who could have believed that 2 arrows could do so much damage. The bull was aware that Ser Ramen Hollis, the known assassin, was in the employ of Lord Cenedil, but he had assumed that the man would have the good sense to leave with Sunspear under attack. The Scourge of the Sand, had superior numbers, and was by most accounts, the most skilled General in all of Westeros. The conquer of Sunspear was a foregone conclusion in his mind. And then just like that, everything was falling apart. The arrows had found Ser Rryn Sand and the Martell Prince traveling with him. A trap had been set simultaneously and the Sand Snakes and a unit of Crossbowmen had been wiped out as well. After that the route had been on, and Saltshore was taken in the process. The letter was written by Willas Flowers who stated that he and the rest of the men were luck to escape with their lives back to Yronwood. With the death of both his best general and his Prince, the Lord Martell had quickly bent the knee and the Vipers lands were no more, now divided between Hightower and Manderly. While this did consolidate power, which the Bull viewed as a positive, it eliminated a powerful ally, and gave new life to a powerful foe he thought was as good as done. The second and third ravens brought news that was almost as bad. It seemed that his scouts had failed him, and had been wrong when it came to both Godsgrace and Lemonwood. He had attacked both with small forces, thinking that all of Lord Cenedil’s troops would be defending his capital. Instead it appears that help had arrived by sea, and his troops would be outnumbered in both cases. There was one good piece of news, that came with the ravens though. Although they were outnumbered in both encounters, his troops were in both cases elite, going up against no elite units, so while they were outmanned, he believed that they had a good opportunity to actually win both of those battles. The fourth raven brought news from the north, and although it was not unexpected, it wise dire nonetheless. The Lord of Harrenhal had finally made his move and Lord Manderly was under attack. It truly seemed as if all of Westeros were at war. It was time to be tested, and with enemies on all sides, he knew that he would be needed in the field shortly. Luther the Young Bull would be in charge of Dorne, once he returned from leading the retreat at Crakehall. The bastard from Highgarden should be able to hold things together until then. Young Tarly had already proven himself well and would be in charge of protecting the West, and he would have to make a march on the north. Lord Manderly was skilled, and had a strong army, but the threat from Harrenhal was huge, and if Manderly broke, the Reach would be entirely surrounded. It was time to see what he, his men and his ideals were really made of. |
