Turncloak

Lord Petyr sat at his throne, looking over his Valarian steel blade, turning it this way and that, its majestic surface rippling. It’s pommel was fashioned in to the likeness of a a trident, clutched by the hand of the merman. Indeed this was true, for this was not the only trident that would be in his grasp, and he smiled at that thought and chuckled softly. Oh yes, the so called Knights would be in his grasp, and with the help of the Reach and Dorne…Westeros would be theirs

Looking up at his half brother he spoke. “This is a fine gift, brother.”

“Aye, it was meant for the Lord of the Harbor.”

“It would be wise to guard your tongue.” Petyr warned.

“Brother, we are alone, you have no fear. The only ones that you should fear is the wrath of gods, for no man is more accursed than the kinslayer.”

“He died in his sleep!” Petyr protested.

“Our brother was not old. Mad, yes, even I could see that, but old? No.”

“If Erys had his way…House Manderly would be dead and the North with it. Yu have heard it for yourself; the lion was slain with not a drop of blood shed.” He placed then sword upon his lap and formed his hands in to a steeple. “The Vale is ours and soon, North and south shall meet.”

“And how may I ask, would you go about this, brother?” he questioned.

“This is war Lareck. If we mean to save the economy, if we mean to outdo the Knights in every way, we must make sacrifices. There is plenty of land for us to conquer, but we must not go astray. For if we go astray…we loose ourselves and we loose our cause. I will not let that happen. We will not let this happen.”

”So what will you have me do?”

“You? You will leave for the War College on the morrow. The arrangements have already been made.”

Lareck was set aback, as if this were a slight. “Do you mean for me to travel to Oldtown? Petyr, I have slipped but…I have trained with the North’s best.”

“Let me finish.” Said Petyr. “”You are to leave for Oldtown on the morrow with ten other high ranking generals and commanders. You will leave a Manderly war galley and within the nest two moon turns you will be in Oldtown, less if the gods are good. During your stay, I expect you to learn their tactics and how to improve, you will, as they, be students in their college. Then, when the time is right, you’ll march up the west with all you’ve learned and with some of the White Bull’s best.”
What came out of Lareck’s mouth next seemed to be part sarcasm. “You’ll have your way brother. I’ll give you your rescue.”

“It’s not rescue I want.” Said Petyr. “It’s knowledge.”

“Knowledge? You sound almost as mad as your brother.”

“You’ll laugh at that remark when you come back.”

“Will I now? What will you be doing then? Call yourself a king?”

“I mean to take the Landing, not to claim a right, there’s enough fear already in this land, I’ll have no more of it.”

“With war comes fear.”

“You could say that.” Said Petyr. “But once the waters flow clear again, so will the fear- or most of it wash away.”

“Aye.” Said Lareck. “And what do you oplan to do when the Knights come storming?”
