This is probably a bit redundant, seeing as how anybody who's anybody has already gone and seen this movie. Still, I feel I need to pay it my respects. First of all, let's talk about the most publicized part of the movie: Heath Ledger, or rather his acting. I went into the movie hoping for a lot, and I came out more than satisfied. The acting was phenomenal, so good to the point where it wasn't even acting, it was more being. I didn't expect to see a performance on par with Daniel Day-Lewis's Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood for many years. Well, I was wrong, and Heath's "acting" isn't just on par with that, it's better. The only problem, if it can even be called that, is that Heath's acting overshadows the other roles. Aaron Eckhart, who played Harvey Dent did an excellent job; I don't feel he's getting the credit he deserves. Same with Gary Oldman; his role was completely believable, and it's a shame that his acting is overshadowed as well. Christian Bale also played a great Bruce Wayne, and the ending scene is one of the strongest movie closings I've ever seen. Next, the plotline. I won't give away too much here, but the plotline is far beyond your average, hell, any superhero movie ever. There are twists and turns, and it leaves you on the edge of your seat until the end. It's said the movie can be placed in the ranks of not only the greatest superhero movies ever, but also with crime epics like The Departed. It's not quite on the level of The Departed, but it comes close. That, in my opinion at least, is amazing for a superhero movie. As for everything else; great visuals (I enjoyed the 'dark' feeling of the movie very much), great soundtrack that plays music at just the right time. Then there is batman himself. While his tools are a bit 'over-the-top', nothing is completely unbelievable. That's part of why Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are my favorite superhero movies: Batman has useful tools, but nothing ridiculously overpowered or unbelievable. It's something I enjoy; movies like Iron Man are fun, but after awhile it's a bit of a turn off, at least in my opinion, when the superhero has infinitely powerful tools at his disposal. Anyways, I can't say enough about this movie, but I'll stop here so that I don't accidently spoil anything for those who haven't seen it (although it probably isn't the smartest thing to open a topic that is titled The Dark Knight before going to see the movie). Overall, I give the movie a 10/10, and I'm definitely going to have to reconstruct my Top 10 Favorite Movies list to give it a place. Anyways, what did you think of the movie? |

Saw it last week. I was worried about the Heath Ledger hype, but all I can say is he was, by far, the best Batman villain I've ever seen. The original penguin was good, but this movie takes Batman to a whole new level. I never thought I'd be able to believe in these characters as a realistic scenario, but now I'm thinking The Joker could be right around the corner. Definatly the best performance, if not the best Batman film, ever. |
