The White Bull

Maester Coleman entered with a scroll. A raven had been received from Brightwater Keep. “Thank you master, that will be all for now. But make sure that you have ravens ready, there are a few messages which I will be sending out myself tonight.”

The White Bull turned and looked out over the table around which sat his war council. Present were his son Luther Hightower, known to all as The Young Bull, Arch Maester Edric the head of both the Citadel and it’s War College and two of his main Lieutenants, Willas Flowers and Donnell Grey.

“This is a hard decision we make tonight men and I would seek your council on it. We have the Reach secured, and can continue onto King’s Landing if we choose, but after that it will surely come to battle. Battle could also come sooner if the Knights of the Trident work to coordinate against us. To the west the Dornish battle with the Arryns who control their capital and the coast. We could wait while they batter each other to pieces and then move in, but who knows ho long that will take and the Knights of the Trident grow stronger each day. I have received ravens from Yronwood and White Harbour, the cowardly Lord of the North and the Sand Snakes grow tired with the sleeping Lion and wish us to replace him. What would you have me do.”

“We must be very careful here,” replied the Arch Maester. “Our campaign has run very smoothly up until now, adding allies adds strength yes, but with that comes responsibility. A weak or false ally could ruin everything that we have worked for.”

“Father you can not be serious. The Dornish are full of bloodlust, they live to conquer and kill. Yes they are very cunning, but theirs is a vile culture and the only ability the reward in a man is his ability to kill another. Think also of all of the good men lost over the years fighting the border wars, this would make all of that in vain.”

“Luther I understand your concerns, but we can not look at the world that has been. We must look at the world that is.”

“Your Lordship, if the Dornish prove true our Alliance would be most strong,” added the Arch Maester. “Lord Manderly may be craven, but his younger brother is very capable and he has a lock on the North. The Arryn’s have no business in Dorne anyways. The Knights of the Trident grow stronger every day, and if we remain neutral, we will be stuck between them and the winner of the Dornish conflict.”

“Father if we go through with this it will truly be an Unholy Alliance.”

“Maester Edric, prepare two scrolls, one for White Harbor and the other for Yronwood. Let Lord Manderly know that we have agreed to replace the Lion and will precede in Dorne as suggested. In the second scroll let Lord Martel know that we will support his advance on The Tor.”

“Willas, Donnell, you will lead three battalions south and meet up with the Ser Rryn Sand, outside of the Tor. Willas you will lead the Knights of Flowers, Donnell you the archers and let one of their lieutenants lead the unsullied. You will all be under the command of the Scourge of the Sand. Take the Tor and Sunspear as well and bring glory to Oldtown.”

“Luther, you will remain here with me in Oldtown for we have much to do. Our armies will be expanding soon, and we will need to scour the war college for capable Lieutenants. The Tor will be the first major battle, but the war is just beginning.”

The White Bull

The ravens were flying fast and furious to and from Oldtown. The White Bull and his son Luther were in the war council, parsing over a map of Westeros when the Arch Maester entered.

“My Lord, three ravens in the past day. One from your riders sent to Oldtown, young Tarly has received your message and is returning toward Oldtown.”

“Send a raven to Highgarden telling him to head north from there, but not to Crakehall. We will give them the city, have him take Goldengrove instead, this will allow us to flank the Ironmen if needed,” replied the White Bull.

“The next raven my lord comes from the North, our allies in the north are close to taking the bloody gate.”

“Good, good, they will soon be in range of the Vale. Let Lord Manderly know that we will give him any support he requires.”

“The final raven is from the South. The battle there goes also goes well, but not as quickly as hoped for. The Tor will be taken, but it could take a while.”

“Let me think on that, I will have to write Lord Martell shortly to discuss how we would like to proceed. Thank you Arch Maester that will be all,” the White Bull dismissed him from their presence.

“Luther, what do you think.”

“These are interesting times father, and our troops will be tested. But I am confident in our allies, and looking forward to wiping these so called Knights of the Trident off of the map.
