Instead of increasing the amount of gold it takes to lay claim I think it'd be a good idea to keep it about the same but you have to have some kind of free unit, human unit so not siege. It makes sense to have to send men to the place to say "Hey! This is mine now!" Instead of paying for an entire city or town, that's like saying "I bought this place for a sixth of what 100 Men at Arms cost!" It's more real I think if that sounds better than paying 200 gold or whatever was decided to lay claim.

Well, IMO, in most other RPGs, in order to expand, you'd need to buy a settler type unit, and then claim, but basically the way we have it now is the same, just without the middle man, you hypothetically use the 200 G in order to buy the settler who claims it for you. You wouldn't need a buy a settler before-hand because that serves no purpose, so there's no reason to have to buy a special unit in order to claim.

I wasn't really saying a special unit, just some Men at Arms or something to show that you have a military claim over whatever city. True, I didn't think of the money being kinda put to the purpose of buying a middle man to claim the area. *shrugs*
