I am about to share my story, but before I do, I encourage you to share yours as well. Whether you are a newcomer, have been involved on The Realm since it's beginning, or have returned to see if the boards are still alive, I would love to hear what you have to say! Where are you from, how did you discover this site, and how has it changed your life... whether it be because it's just a fun place to hang out and log on every now and then, or a place to share your writing and art, or more personal, post it! Let's get the forums alive again! I've been on The Realm since it's inception (no, not the movie ), and used to be a much more active member... I have lots of memories messing around in the Fun and Games section (anyone remember the epic Party Game or the Secret Killer one?) and reading the stories that others have shared. I have always loved writing and have been a nerd, and when I heard about The Realm through Mr. Batson's blog, I joined right away. Though in highschool, I may have spent a little too much time online at times, I don't regret a moment spent having fun and engaging with other writers/artists/nerds through The Realm. Indeed, if not for these forums, I would never have met the most important person in my life.I did not join this website with intentions to find a girlfriend, but it did happen. We knew each other through these forums as acquaintances for some time, and I always thought she was one of the more engaging members. We private messaged a couple times, and then ended up using our personal email accounts to share some of our writings together, and then after a couple years, I ran across her on Facebook, and sent her a friend request. I can still remember thinking that she was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, and was eager to get to know her more personally. Over the next couple years, we began to develop a relationship... more than a simple internet relationship, we grew close together as best friends, and soon, as lovers. This woman has always been a source of encouragement to me, and such a joy to spend time with... though most of our time together has been long distance, I am so proud to say that I will be her husband within a few short months. This woman is none other than the beautiful Warrior Princess, who I am happily engaged to at the moment. So, what is your story? Simple, or longer, whatever it may be, we'd all love to hear it! Looking forward to hearing from everyone! ![]() Btw, let me take a moment to say that I advise discretion when speaking to strangers on the internet, especially to the younger members on this website, but long-distance dating, if done right, can lead to a fulfilling relationship. Not all relationships are the same, and long distance definitely has it's challenges, but I am so thankful that God has been with mine and my fiancee's relationship. She is a blessing to me.

Christmas 2009, I got the whole TDW series as a gift. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. Each book took less time than the previous one until I finished The Final Storm in one day. Some time later while searching the web for TDW, I found these forums. I looked around, but didn't join yet. In the summer of 2010, my family and I moved from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania. This was just before my junior year in high school, so I had planned to just get through the last two years without trying to make any friends. I was never all that social anyway. I spent more time online than before, and I ended up finding these forums again early in 2011. I decided that it looked like fun so I decided to join. I mostly posted in the fun and games area, but by the time I joined there weren't as many people active as before. Still I always liked coming here, even when I was supposed to be writing a paper. Anytime I was feeling down or overwhelmed by school, I felt better here. Another way The Realm has influenced me is that this was the first place where I showed anyone my writing and drawings. I would draw or write every now and then, but I never showed it to anyone. I eventually decided to post some of what I had done, although I didn't really have any plan or plot for my story and it didn't really go anywhere (but I have been planning a new one that I hope will be much better). I haven't been on a whole lot since I started college, but I hope I'll be on here a bit more now that I've gotten the hang of things. |

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it'll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding on to something." -Samwise Gamgee

Ughhh Javi you have no idea how humbled I am to read this. Like, truly. I never could have imagined when I created this forum that it would lead to a marriage, but here you are blowing my expectations out of the water five years after the fact. I'm amazed and happy and I swear I'm not going to cry, for two reasons: 1.) I am the king, and 2.) because I am a man! So stop it! Stop trying to make me cry! *whew* Okay, let's get this train back on its rails. I first discovered The Door Within sometime in 2007 while browsing at Family Christian Stores. I read the back synopsis and part of the first chapter, and I fell in love with the style instantly. The story pulled me in so strongly it was a force I couldn't escape. It just...resonated with me. So I bought the second book and it intensified, and finally the third book and by that time I had finally decided that I loved reading again. I love the adventure it can take you on, I love how when you're reading an excellent book you feel like you're standing right there next to the characters, breathing the same air. The Door Within brought me back my love for reading. So I wanted to do something for the author. I got in touch with Mr. Batson about creating a forum for his blog (since at the time he didn't have one) and that's when TDWF was born. I wanted a community where I could share the adventure, so here we are. TDWF has come a long way. The mods and I have put many hours into shaping the community, and though it may be a bit out of sorts (I sort of anticipated exponential growth, that's why there are so many subforums and such) I love it. You guys are all awesome. Let's keep being awesome. |

The books were a mystery because they were just out of reach in my sister's possession, and she wouldn't let me touch them. The forbidden things always makes one want it more. I was indifferent to books, not very interested in them, finding them boring. Bigger books were more tedious to even look at. But these were different, because my sister was so excited about them. And so, as soon as I could, I ventured down into the pages of the first book. Before I knew it, I was a hundred pages in and scared at what was happening. I was pulled in. By the time I got to the last book, I was filled with a sense of urgency. But the CLIMAX. It shocked me. I was not expecting it. I slammed the book shut and cried for a minute. Then I peeked into the book to see what was going to happen next, though I was filled with horror. And what do you know? A Eucastrophe. A big turn-around. So good. Such happy. Wow. And I've been wanting movies for them ever since. The forums were fun, especially because there were fellow fans of the books in it. I met some people. I think I was even more inspired to write my stories. |

Dorsidhion... wow that's cool. The realm was always an encouraging place for me too. =) I gotta check out your writing... Josh/ King Aelic, like I said, I didn't even join with the intentions of dating... but these forums definitely brought a lot of like-minded people together, and she was one of them. =) Jill, I've always wanted a movie for those books!! That would be insane... I swear I would be there opening night with contact lenses to color my eyes, and a costume haha |

My step brother had found TDW at the library and once he was finished reading it, he forced me to read it. The two of us have been best friends since kindergarten, so when our parents got married, we would share most things with each other as soon as we discovered it. I feel in love with the book, and the two of us finished the other two. Somewhere down the road, my step brother was spending a lot of time at his grandmas nextdoor, like as soon as we got off of the bus he would run next door, and wouldn't return until dinner. When I finally asked, he told me about how he had discovered the forums, and I myself made a profile the next day. My step brother and I both loved to write. We would spend hours late at night during summer vacation on the computer helping each other write stories. This became a place that fueled my passion for writing, and I did more writing, and became a much better writer from this site just goofing off and having fun. As school took more and more of my time, I spent less and less time on here, until I forgot about this site completely. While I was home on leave, I was looking through the old bookshelf that my step brother kept all his old books on, and I found TDW books, and I was taken back to memories of hours spent on this site. So, here I am, hoping to bring some of the old members back on, and breath new life back to this place. |

"Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor"! Theoden "If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music... Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "True courage is not the absence of fear. It is refusing to allow fear to control your actions." "If love can blind you, then whose to say other emotions can't?" "All effort-even failed effort-produces growth." Brett and Alex Harris "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Forgive your enemies; it messes with their heads. Despair is knowing without a shadow of doubt, that the future will bring something bad. Nobody knows for certain what the future will bring. In this light, there is always hope. Always. Ucatastrophe(adj.)-the sudden, unforeseeable change, from dark to light. Antonym of Catastrophe.
