OK, I didn't find a thread on this, don't know if anyone mentioned it in another thread... , but did anyone else connect Mr. Teach with Blackbeard? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Teach I started screeching (literally!) when my mom read that last part with him...

I figured out that he was going to become blackbeard at the end, but found out later that the real blackbeard's name was Edward Teach and thought it was funny. Nice touch |

I noticed the foreshadowing, and kind of guessed that 'Mr. Teach' would end up as Blackbeard. Of course, I've always been dreadfully interested in pirates, and we had a couple fascinating books on pirates growing up. I absolutely loved the bit about the Vikings 'drinking rum and gunpowder', was it? And braiding burning hemp into their beards or something along those lines. I remember reading about how Blackbeard did that sort of thing, so I was nodding my head like crazy when it was mentioned in IoF. |
![]() "Does anyone suppose that he really and prosaically longs for all the dangers and discomforts of a fairy tale?—really wants dragons in contemporary England? It is not so. It would be much truer to say that fairy land arouses a longing for he knows not what. It stirs and troubles him (to his life-long enrichment) with the dim sense of something beyond his reach and, far from dulling or emptying the actual world, gives it a new 'dimension of depth’. He does not despise real woods because he has read of enchanted woods: the reading makes all real woods a little enchanted." - C.S. Lewis For me, a page of good prose is where one hears the rain [and] the noise of battle. ~John Cheever | |

I didn't make the connection. However, the only real pirates I know of are Sir Francis Drake and Blackbeard. That's about it..^^ I didn't know Edward Teach was Blackbeard's real name. I thought it was real clever, though..Very nice touch. I nearly jumped out of my seat when I read that part. |

As soon as I read the profile at the beginning(having already known Blackbeard's real name) I'm like, "Dude, that's awesome!" Not to mention I died laughing while reading when Thorne was shaving and he said Teach would probably never grow a beard. XD |

Shyeloh (She had already read IoF) asked me before I even started the book: "Did you know that Black Beard's real name was Edward Teach?" I didn't know why she asked me that, but when I was reading the last part, I was grinning from ear to ear. I thought: "that's why she asked me that..." Anyway, I thought that was a great ending and very interesting, too.
