I have railed about the lack of a Hogan-Austin match at WrestleMania X8 for a long time. In fact, I've complained about it from the day that The Rock challenged Hogan on RAW.

Many people have claimed a lot of bullshit reasons about it; people that don't know shit, really. Just fan speculation, with so-called "sources". ^o)

But I got both Hulk Hogan's autobiography, and Steve Austin's book.

A strange thing about BOTH of them: neither man mentions ANYTHING about a potential match at that WrestleMania!

Now, if the match were possible, but someone "didn't want to job", or anything like that, one of those two guys would have said something in his book about the situation. But looking at both sides, neither guy even thought about a potential match.

In Hogan's book, he claims that Vince called him and expressly asked if Hogan wanted to return to WWF for a match with The Rock, specifically. Which meant that it was Hogan-Rock before Hulk even returned to WWF.

That would make sense, and explain why there is no mention of a Hogan-Austin match. If Hogan-Rock was set in stone before anybody was even signed, then Vince himself was the one who dropped the ball on this one.

Any thoughts?

I think both Hogan and Austin (Hogan most likely) mentioned to work against each other based on radio interviews, but I'm not so sure about that.

I've seen/heard about that, but those interviews (and all the dirtsheet crap that goes with it) refer to a proposed match between the two at WrestleMania 21 (after Hogan "challenged" Austin at WWE Homecoming).

That was years after WrestleMania X8. From the actual 2002 timeframe, we've got not one peep out of either of them regarding a potential matchup.

And Austin goes on at length in his book about that timeframe, and how he was pissed about the writing. He says it was shitty for him to be facing Hall at WrestleMania X8, as it was "just another match on the card". If there had been any proposal of a match against Hogan, that would be where Austin would at least mention it.

It just seems that the match was never even proposed at the time, which I find to be absolutely incredible. It's THE "dream match"! You'd think at least somebody in Vince's group would have pushed for it.
