Yes, he is. Just saw on the tv news this morning that Ron Simmons is one of the 2008 inductees into the national College Football Hall of Fame. Though Simmons never made it in the NFL, he had an outstanding college career, playing defesive line for the Florida State Seminoles in the early 1980s. A multiple-time All-American selection, his jersey number has been retired at FSU for over a decade. And now, he's a Hall of Famer. |

JR mentioned it too right now right after the Murdoch-Trish-Simmons segment. |

Most people wouldn't realize the significance of Simmons' career, because a) they aren't college football fans, and b) because they were either too young or unborn to see him play. I never saw him play, but I can tell you one thing: FSU was an absolute powerhouse in college football from the mid-80s to 2000. A couple Heisman Trophy (Best Player in the Nation) winners, too many All-Americans to count, a couple guys that went on to the PRO football Hall of Fame, and so on. And among all that success, Simmons managed to stand out enough for the school to retire his jersey. So you know he was "DAMN" good. |
