Thank you for this thread Moey! I have been contemplating whether or not I should leave the message boards, sites, etc. due to the overall negativity in many parts of the Luke/Noah community. I enjoy having a place(s) where I can read and express my thoughts on the story lines because they ideally provide an opportunity for my viewing experience to be enriched. I understand and respect people's right to express their displeasure and concern. However for me, *some* of the commentary has become so depressing that, combined with the stress of college, it literally gives me a tension headache (like the one I am currently experiencing). This saddens because I primarily use soaps as a way to escape my stress and now it just appears to be contributing to it. To answer your specific question, I am still watching because there is just something, even in all the angst and controversy, so endearing about Luke and Noah. I realize that they have been treated unfairly in terms of intimacy, etc. and this is unquestionably tragic. However, in my opinion, there is still an undeniable sweetness and simplicity to their love that makes it appear more authentic than a majority of other soap couples currently on-screen. Instead of portraying love as a game of advantage or power, Luke and Noah's love feels like more of an organic need for comfort and understanding. For me personally, that is what a good love story is all about. Additionally, I don't believe I would have been so drawn to this story had it not been for the fine capabilities of the actors. A show can have the most creative , sharp writing in the world, but if the actors cannot deliver the material on the same level, it will likely fall flat. Van and Jake's ability to make me feel and believe their character's emotions in spite of questionable writing says many things. First, it demonstrates that they have a great talent for their craft. Second, it shows that the amount of dedication they have toward the characters they portray. And when all is said and done, I will always be glad that I had the chance to experience a story with an underlying message of "...love is love..." For in all the ugliness that is hate and bitterness, this message is *true* beauty. |

I didn't think that today's episode was "OMG HORRIBLE! KILL YOURSELF ATWT!" but I agree with the low points that have been mentioned in this thread (like Noah constantly pulling away from Luke. I can live without seeing that yet again). I don't understand why Noah would have said "I'm sick to death of being mad at you" before he went to rehab, if his anger wasn't going to start dwindling down. I really expected that it would have died down somewhat by now, so I'm a little thrown by it. And I feel (like some of you guys do), that this angst is without purpose. It's not angst that hurts so good, it's angst that just plain hurts. I miss my Sweetheart!Noah. But, I am still hoping for the ridiculously adorably sweet and wonderful reunion that the boys are (hopefully) going to have! Also...I think the show did the no-answer thing when Luke asked Noah if he was secondary on purpose. I think they wanted to show that Noah didn't know how to answer that, because he still loves Luke even though he's tremendously mad at him. At least, that's what I'm telling myself. And it wouldn't make much sense for Noah to say "Yes, you are secondary", with all the "I put your feelings into consideration before I do anything" and "It's our life!" speeches he had during the Mason storyline. Hehe. I'm really just guessing at this point! |

THIS. OMG THIS! This is kinda the reason I don't want my friend to join fandom...cause she is enjoying it SO FREAKING MUCH without it! And even episodes that people consider "bad" or whatever, she really enjoyed because to her, it's just a show and it's all done for the sake of drama! I came into this couple KNOWING that it is a soap opera, and after growing up watching GH with my mom and sister, I KNEW what that meant. FACT- Soaps don't make sense sometimes. If anyone who comes into this show thinking that it's going to be set in perfect reality with things going exactly how things go in real life, then they are seriously mistaken. HELL! OAKDALE ISN'T EVEN A REAL CITY! Crazy things are going to happen...and sometimes they don't make sense, but that's where the drama comes from. That's just the way things are. And quite honestly, I'm so in love with this couple, and with the actors who play them, that I would follow them to the ends of the Earth even if it meant that I had to sit through a storyline where Noah was abducted by aliens and Luke had to build a spaceship to go save him. I love them together, I love them apart, I love them with other characters, I LOVE THEM! And I'm so deeply invested in them, and in Van and Jake, that I will always watch...ALWAYS. |

Yeah, fandom can suck the fun out of watching the show, that's for sure. Sometimes makes me wish I just stuck to watching the show via YT (or live on tv). But then I remember all of you and I change my mind.

I don't get it at all. Yes, parts of the episode were contrived. So what else is new? And I'm especially boggled at all the "oh no, no more angst, we just want happy!boys" comments. Um, you DO realize you're watching a SOAP OPERA, right? Happy Fun Times ain't what it's about. Not to mention that the boys were very happy with each other from mid-January to mid-November except for a few brief arguments. The things that happened to them then were external, and they faced them together. It's practically unheard of for a soap couple to go that long without a breakup! The main thing I didn't like in the episode was how the film was handled. I thought it was ridiculous to have Luke finish the film himself. Maybe if Noah had been editing as he went and it was just a scene or two from completion it would've worked, but even then someone else would've had to do the editing. How hard would it have been for the writers to have Luke to say it was mostly Noah's crew that did the work? Still dumb, but less stupid. As for people griping about Noah's behavior, I thought Noah was less angry in this episode, or, at least, he was directing his anger and frustration toward something productive: finding a doctor who might be able to restore his sight. No, it's not healthy that he's now so focused on that that he's pulling even further away from Luke, or that he's still putting so much blame and burden on Luke, but that's just evidence that he's not recovering mentally. Sometimes that's how things go after a major trauma. Some people recover faster than others. Eventually either he'll see again, or he'll have a breakdown and finally accept his situation. He's not to that point yet. The healthy parts I did see were Luke standing up for himself more than he has to this point, and Noah spelling out to Luke exactly why he wasn't happy about the film. He feels like Luke is trying to control him. I don't think that's Luke intention, but I also don't think Luke gets what Noah means at all. Right after Noah finishes telling him to stop trying to take over everything, Luke butts in yet again by calling the doctor's office. And Luke probably didn't make the connection between the two. They aren't communicating right now. They're talking, but neither of them is really hearing the other. And it's probably going to take something pretty big to clear things up for both of them. |

Noelle I think you explained this perfectly. Your exactly right some people do recover faster than others. I myself had to deal with having my 1st back surgery at age 11 back in 96' and I lashed out at everyone in my family and I probably did that for about 2 years. I like Noah felt like that I had really no control or say over what happened to me because I was a minor. Physically Noah's healing but as you said he really hasn't began the mental recovery yet. Also yes it was time for Luke to lash back and I'm glad that he didn't go over board with it because when you lash back at first its kinda hard to tell how much to push back. I'm very proud of Luke for standing by Noah because this is something that tests any relationship. Its not easy but it normally makes people stronger in the end. |

I didn't go on the message boards last night because I spent the ENTIRE FUCKING NIGHT trying to get 'Goodnight Elizabeth' to download and was then completely consumed by the unfunfunfJAKEPORNunfunfunf once it finally did. So I missed the vast majority of drama concerning yesterday's episode. I didn't think it was omgsoawesome but I also didn't think it was omgsoterrible. I thought it did a good job of moving the storyline along, contrived angst and all. Every now and then we get an episode that is simply filler - moving the storyline from part A to part B and those seem to always draw the most ire. Only this time it's worse because Noah is still so angry and the drama written to help showcase that anger, Luke finishing Noah's film and submitting it WITHOUT EVEN TELLING HIM (imo, this is what Noah was more upset about, it's what I'm more upset about), is so cheap and lame. I actually had a bigger issue, like Mayah pointed out, of Luke asking if Noah getting his sight back was more important than him and then instead of no answer we get them standing outside talking about the trees covered in snow. Really? So yeah. Yesterday's episode wasn't great. But I still enjoyed it because it had the boys in it and the boys make me happy, even when they're being little Angsty McAngst McMuffins. The storyline is moving on and that's all good with me because while I don't have much faith in this show, I have absolute faith that once Noah gets his eyesight back, things will start to turn back around for the guys. Maybe not right away but they will. The show is ending in nine months and I don't think even this show, with some of the stupid moves it's made in the past, will be so stupid as to not have these two guys get together and stay together at the end of it. Also, I think a huge part of the anger of yesterday's episode that I was blissfully unaware of because of trying to watch the JakePorn, is that they haven't been on much lately and when they are, this is what we get. It certainly doesn't help. |

I am sooo with you! I am just gonna enjoy the show and Nuke while I can. Being negative won't help no-one. But I must say I also had the feeling I missed some scenes. I still watch because I love ATWT as a soap with all the drama and weird things that go with it. And I love watching Nuke and Van and Jake. It's always better to see them more, but i can't do anything about that..... |

I'm still watching because I love watching the boys. Like Kat, I stopped visiting most message boards because the negativity was too draining. I only visit the sites now for the fan fic (cause it's fun to read) and don't even bother with the discussions. Now I will confess to not watching yesterday's show (I was out at an appt and forgot to Tivo it) but will eventually. Even so, I'm looking forward to the next few weeks. |

Yeah, watched the seen live and then on YT and wasn't bothered too much by it (the chopping editing was really the only thing that made go OCD on the show). I agree with everyone above. I remember watching A___ ep. and hating everything about the show because of all the negativity surrounding Noah's behavior. And then, about a year later, I sat down and watched some of the A__ days episodes and I LOVED them. The scenes weren't as bad as I thought! Same with a lot of ep. I rewatch now. They are so much more entertaining when you don't have to go on places like vh.net and hear everyone's constantly complaining. (Sidenote: I fell hard for Noah's character and Jake during this A____/Noah-bashing storyline.) If the show ends, it ends. But while looking at all the negative post(s) as of late (and reading about someone saying that we only have 8 months left) that bitching about Noah doing this or Luke saying that isn't worth it. I want to ENJOY the next 8 months instead of read online how Noah's being a jerk and Luke is a pushover. I mean, really? Save the drama for the Soaps! Edited by Lis, Jan 7 2010, 02:35 AM.
