I didn't know where else to rant about this without creating a brouhaha, and if it does here - then please, please, please delete this. But I have to admit - it gets very tiring trying to be positive on the message boards. It seems like all anyone ever does these days is whine. Every time I turn around people are complaining about the storyline, the writing, the characters, the show. I can't help wondering if we are our own worst enemies - if by our constant complaining we aren't giving the show a chance. Or maybe I'm just surrounded by a few very vocal, negative voices. Anyway, I wish there was something that could be done about it - but God knows what. I love discussing the boys, but it doesn't seem like there are many fun places left anymore. This place seems cool - I hope people will post more. That's my mini rant. |

I know there are some boards out there that are far more negative than others. I don't know if it's the general accepted, jilted vibe of the board or just the most prominent, vocal, "I have 1300 posts so I MUST know more about you do about this silly little show so what I say goes," posters, but that's why we started this board. We were tired of the drama and the negativity and the not being able to spout off a different opinion. I mean, really, it's a soap opera. It's not even a very good soap opera. It falls short in a lot of ways, and people get all up in arms over it like you're insulting their mothers or their first born or like they are the ones writing the show or that the show was put on the air for them alone to enjoy, if you vocalize an unpopular opinion. The fact that we have to preface something with "this isn't a very popular opinion" or "don't hate me for saying this but..." or the ever popular, "*ducks flying objects*" is ridiculous. Most of us are adults and we should be able to act like adults. We're all different and we're all going to like different aspects of storylines and characters and actors and because of that, we're not all going to be over the moon about this kiss or that scene or these characters thrown into the the Nuke orbit. And the fact that we can't either agree to disagree or respectively argue our points of view without dragging names and people and characters and storylines and actors through the mud really gets me. But I think the fact that most of this takes place online, behind the safety of our monitors and anonymous screen names, allows for people to be far more rude and less understanding than if these discussions took place in real life. People don't have to look others in the eye when insulting them or even ever have to go back to where they threw all the mud around. It's much easier to be an asshole when no one knows who you really are. What's always gotten me is that this fandom, this wonderful little fandom that wants, really, nothing more than to celebrate the beauty of two people in love and the joy and diversity that that love story brings to a place where it's still an otherwise taboo place to be, can't get along. As a whole, the fandom does, but there are a few, ok several, people that insist on pissing in the playground and ruining it for everyone. Can't we all just get along? Seriously. And to answer your own worst enemies point - I know some of the negativity stems from being burned in the past, but it's almost as if every new storyline doesn't even get a chance to get off the starting line before it's crushed under the collective heel of the fandom like it's some gross bug. And then the fandom pisses and moans about lack of airtime and quality storylines. So yes, I think that we are (please don't think when I say we I mean everyone) tightening our own noose and responsible for some of the stuff or lack thereof, concerning Nuke. There seems to be no winning. //rant |

G and I were talking about this just the other day, though about the show as a whole. We finally came to the conclusion that TPTB need to stop half-assing (or, conversely, going over-the-top on) the storylines, and the fans need to take a collective chill pill. Are there things we don't like about the show? Yes. That's what fanfic is for. And if you can't write, give your bunny to someone else to write. I'm dissatisfied with the turnout of the Amira arc/Zac and Zoe arc/Noah not having any family. That's why I'm writing Horiya. I'm not spamming board with complaints about how omg AWFUL the writers are. If you hate it that much, stop watching. God, as if no one ever left a fandom before. G and I were late to the party so we're not acquainted with other boards, but I think it's safe to say that here, the LJ comm, and people's individual journals are the places to be if you want a happy sandbox. If vh.net or wherever is a bunch of little pissers, fuck 'em. Okay, I'm a hypocrite because I lurk in the SC boards where EVERYBODY is a Debbie Downer, but at least there they can be funny every once in awhile. (Like the person who said Luke becoming more like Damian is only good if it means he's going to get as much on-screen sex as Damian. NEW FAVORITE PERSON.) Let's just think of the naysayers and whiners and babies as "the bad crowd" that our mothers told us not to get caught up in. You only join them if you can't beat them, and an unyielding resolve to BE HAPPY DAMMIT has no conquerer. |

I started my fandom career with the first big online fandom, X-Files, and it was full of people like that. XF was known for confusing plots and hanging threads (not to mention the YEARS AND YEARS of unresolved sexual tension between the leads), and there was always someone complaining about some elements. More than once there were big fandom wars with half of us saying "if you hate it so much, WHY ARE YOU STILL WATCHING???" Anyway. Not to say that I never complain about things, but fandom is supposed to be fun. What's the point if it spikes your blood pressure all the time? I prefer to concentrate on the things I like (onscreen and off) and skate over the surface when it comes to the rest-- or "fix it" with fanfic.

I'm not sure how much I complain about the show, but I don't think I ever complain about the boys. Like, I could be really that stupid and not remember a rant or something, but I honestly don't think I do. The show? I get a little dramatic about it. Like, I DON'T hate it, but I don't like it either. It's not my type of show. But I don't go around ranting and raving about the writing. If there's something wrong I BLAME it on the writing, producing, etc, but I don't let it take up my views on the show. Thing is, I just kind of accept the fact that the show isn't great and I'm not holding my breath for any improvement. BUT I'm still not going to moan and groan about it... |

I've stopped frequenting one board because of the negativity and as for the constant negativity I laugh at it now because some people get SO CRAZY about it to the point where it's just like: please relax. Honestly you just have to gloss over certain posts or just laugh at them it's what I do and it stops me from getting upset. |

These? Are a problem. I think that those few voices are often mistakenly used as an indicator of what the entire fandom is feeling, and I happen to think that's not a very accurate barometer. I'm sometimes a bit hesitant to post in threads like this though, because I have a hard time deciding whether I might often fall into the negative category. Cause I do admit to having done my fair share of complaining in the past. Or at the very least, agreeing with people who had something negative to say. But anyway, I'm just mostly here to say that I hope that your mini-rant made you feel a little better. Sometimes you just need to get it out. And, also just because this ALWAYS makes me happy: ![]() *squishes them even tighter than they already are* LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE |

There is not enough squee in the WORLD for that picture! And hey, there's no sin in being unsatisfied every once in awhile. It's when you go around making doomsday prophecies and pissing in everyone else's cheerios that you become the people this board was created to avoid. |

honestly, if it weren't for the boys and some of the AMAZING people that are in the fandom, I would've been out a loooooong time ago. But I think that amazigness level of certain lovelies (like, um, everyone on this board) overrule the nasty energy of others. Though I really, REALLY get everything you said. Like, everything. Because yeah. Preach it. |

Can I just say...you were one of my favorite people on vandj.com? I loved your opinions. I thought they were logical and so reasonable. I'm so glad you're here. And I totally get you, which is why we started this board in the first place. Unfortunately, people are addicted to the bitterness and the drama. And I guess it doesn't help that I complain about the bitterness and the drama. I'm trying to stop, I really am. But like you said, it's hard when it's like freaking everywhere.
I wonder about this. All the time. Like if the fans didn't freak out so much about Mason before he even aired, would we have a legitimate decent triangle? That both the boys would act their asses off? Cause I know people are so fierce about their OTP. I mean, I am. But this Mason storyline was the one that made the most sense to me. Mason is out, proud, smart, successful, has boatload in common with Noah, so a triangle could have worked so well. The fact that Nuke is endgame didn't make me worry that Noah was gonna all of a sudden fall in love with Mason and forget about Luke. I wish people would see that. And that it's a soap opera like Ailene said. I am LOVING this storyline, wherever it's heading. And from what Van and Jake have hinted at the Paris event, it's gonna be awesome. Did you read this recap? http://community.livejournal.com/luke_noah/930262.html It'll put a ginormous smile on your face. But please be ignoring the inappropriate questions that crazycakes fans asked. ![]() And I love this board too. And I do wish people would post more. But like I said, the negativity is addicting. OY BUT YOU. You post more. Cause I effing loved reading your opinions and comments over on the other board before I stopped going there.

Ditto - big time win at life. And pretty boys make everything better. So does getting stuff off my chest. Thanks! *Iz off to stare at her Jake background a little while* PS: Color me VERY excited for the next storyline. But then, I've liked every single one - even the Ameera one (There I said it) Mainly because I thought the boys rocked their scenes. |

Uh, third bid? *patiently waits Mainly I just agree with whomever said that I don't want to see something that will make me dislike the boys or the pairing. No arc had yet given me that feeling, so I'm a bit torn between waiting for the other shoe to drop, or being secure that there's nothing they can throw at us that we can't handle.
