Besides any of the Anti-Nuke fandoms out there, is there any fandom out there that you belonged to or were thinking of beloning to but the fans ruined it for you? I love CSI and my favorite is Nick/Greg, obviously. But I would ship other couples, too. One was Grissom and Sara aka GSR. It was an older man/younger woman thing, and I thought it was cute. It probably sounds forced, but I ended up wanting them to get together because I hated a some of other couples that shipped Grissom with someone else, and same for Sara. By the end of season 6 you realized they were together. And all through season 7 they were dating in private and it go SO irritating. Now, I could have lived with that. If the GSR fans weren't demanding their superiority at the same time! Like RUBBING it in our faces that they were the "canon" couple. My couple didn't mess with their couple, yet they bragged and bragged. And the couples that actually interfiered with theirs were even worse off. I kept saying that I used to be a GSR fan until the fans ruined it for me, and they still didn't care! So that's my experience with that. Right now, Grissom and Sara are married but neither character is currently on the show. (Sara is guest staring at the moment.) And I can't help but feel a little happy about that. I've been avoiding the Hetalia fandom ever since it got bigger and the Poland/Lithuania base pretty much became the buttmonkey of the Russia/Lithuania base. I can respect it if you personally like Russia and Lithuania together, and I will even agree if you think Lithuania helps Russia de-crazy sometimes, but as soon as you start arguing that Russia understands Lithuania better than Poland does? Or that Poland was more abusive than Russia? I'll think you haven't actually been reading the comics. At all. And if you claim to have read the comics (or to know anything about history) and DON'T think that Russia was abusing Lithuania both mentally AND physically, then I'll think you're a liar. And then such people took over the fandom. When the formerly canon, dysfunctional but otherwise sweet 'ship became a joke to the fandom in turn for an entirely psychotic, controlling, abusive (although also admittedly canon) mess, fandom-ing became hard for me. (Although I'll still go back occasionally for my America/England fix. The fanart is just so shiny!) |

I am a big Xena fan, but I got soured on the fandom after all the endless Shipper (those who wanted Xena/Ares as a couple) versus Subtexter (those who wanted Xena/Gabrielle together) debates (neither couple was ever confirmed as canon on the show). Plus, there was a period of rampant Gabrielle hate and bashing, and anyone who knows me knows I FLOVE my Gabby. ![]() While I know people are entitled to their opinions, I can't believe how anyone could essentially hate one of the two main characters and wish she was never on or had died early in the series (and there were plenty of debates on what Xena was really about: just her, or both her and Gabrielle). I still talk to a few Xena fans online and read the occasional fan fic, but I don't want to be part of a big fan community or attend the annual convention in Burbank anymore.
