I was posting some fan fiction over there. 924 ALP (after Last Pilgrimage) the 3.9 million people Terra Nova spent almost a century building a portal to go back to what they called "Old Earth". They had created a sustainable, stable society (trying to keep the population stable, but up 100,000 in the last century). 249 Settlements covering over half of one continent. Council of Elders (life time appointment) determines policy, but funding is done by democraticly elected Parliament. Everything is build to last as long as possible. No aviation except a couple dozen zeppelins. Most travel (people @ freight) by railroads between the Settlements. The new portal is two way, but open for less than an day every 9 months. They land near what was Chicago. Grass and insects and not much less. VERY hot & dry in the summer. After multiple Return Pilgrimages, they encounter primitive humans sailing back on an expanded Hudsons Bay from a winter salvage expedition in the southern cities. This leads to communicating with Iceland - which "manages" North America & Greenland. Scandinavia "manages" Europe and Siberia, except Switzerland. They, and Antarctica are the last islands of technology. The only domes to keep functioning. Anyone reading ? |
