I am, so I am compelled to watch anything with dinosaurs in it (as well as aliens, elves and secret agents). So naturally I am watching TN. I do however have much to bitch about. I know this is a network TV show so I'm not going to bitch about the family presentation with something for every age group and advertising demographic of note. I'm also not going to bitch about the Dawson's Creek level of teen drama or the too dumb to live activities that seem to drive the drama here. I'm also not going to bitch about the mediocre level of general survivor style stress, Outcasts did it much better and, so far, seems to have made all the relevant plot points first. I'm going to bitch about the dinosaurs. First of all, the unnamed dinosaurs and pterosaurs are typical of that time, there is nothing really worth complaining about the slasher or the pterosaurus hitchcockia. I know the wifestealing paleobiologist tried to name it, but my name is better and he is fictional. The three named dinosaurs in the show are grossly atemporal. They are Allosaurus - only mentioned by name and referred to as being heard making noises far away Brachiosaurus - seen eating from the hands of the little girl Carnotaurus - seen chasing down tanks and shaking off bullets easily For a show set in the mid Cretaceous in 85M BCA this poses some problems for somebody who loves dinosaurs and knows how to google. Allosaurus - Lived 150M BCA - Finds in Colorado and Portugal Brachiosaurus - Lived 150M BCA - Finds in Colorado Carnotaurus - Lived 70M BCA - Finds in Patagonia Basically the named dinosaurs lived either 65 million years before or 15 million years after the time the show is set in. Note, Pangea broke up 170M BCA so North and South America were NOT connected at the time. soo.. I'll keep watching, be annoyed over the mediocre story lines, illogical choices the characters make and will rip my hair out every time dinosaurs show up the wrong place at the wrong time. I can just imagine the script meeting for this show Spielberg: I want a fight between a T-Rex and a Tricerotops Horner: Eh, Steve, neither of those animals will exist for another 15 million years. Spielberg: Can't we have the two ancestors of our time do it then? We'll call them Ceethreeposaurus and Artoodeetosaurus!! Horner: We know their ancestors of this (or close enough) time, they are Albertasaurus and Protoceratops. Spielberg: That's even better, we can get up our viewing statisitcs in canada. Horner: But the Protoceratops was really small compared to the Albertasaurus. Spielberg: Eh, what is big enough then; Group? Asprign Writer: I was a Ground Sloth at the La Brea Tar Pits, can we use that. Horner: WTF? Spielberg: It's decided Albertasaurus will fight the Giant Ground Sloth. |

Hello. I appreciate the paleotechnics. If it were an alternate time-line, though, then everything ought to be acceptable, correct? JZ |
