"Yes, Almama," Terios said, following her and clinging to the sword as he did so. Eventually they reached a top of the tree where they could see a seemingly endless expanse. In the farthest reaches of that expanse, an object of pure blackness could be seen, one which was slowly growing larger, and consuming everything in its path without any remorse. "W-what is that!?" The boy exclaimed fearfully.
~~~~~
Zach blinked, eventually standing. "Well, kiddo, I guess we shouldn't sit around, should we?" He asked as he made his way up another path, eventually reaching the top of the tree, though on a different branch. He too saw the ever growing darkness, and was simply taken aback. "Oh no..." He whispered, suddenly feeling an ever growing hopelessness.
~~~~~
The house was suddenly flooded with darkness, all living beings within ceasing movement and motion. To those who still had sight, everything seemed to be made up of distinct black forms, frozen in a strange inky substance. They did not move, they did not think, and they did not, by almost any definition, exist.
~~~~~
Patrick watched Leo for a second, the tendrils still binding the demon, though suddenly beginning to enter her body through her skin, at the same time, dragging her to the boundary of the orb. He, meanwhile, walked to another boundary, entering the darkness between, then entering Leo's orb. "Stasis," He told the man. "You have brought about the end of time. And your punishment will be eternity alone." He spoke coldly. "What is there now that you can do?" He asked.
"Zhis... can't be good. Great," Alma breathed as she glanced forward. "Ve got to get to your fazher and sister, okay?" she told the boy before picking him up with one arm before hurrying down. "Just hold on."
Within a couple of minutes she was down and face to face with Zach. "Zach, vhat iz going on? Do you know?" she asked with a huffed voice.
~~~~~~~
"Well, that's a stupid question, isn't it? Obviously I would have to spend an eternity alone," Leo said with a grimaced. "What are you getting at???"

"... I don't know..." Zach mumbled. "But whatever it is... I have a terrible feeling about it..." He said, about to jump down from where he was standing, only to land on the air, which had turned black. In fact, everything had, except for a small area he was trapped in, and a small area where Alma was. "What!?" He exclaimed, causing the baby to cry. He shushed her, but realized that Alma couldn't hear him or the child.
~~~~~
"W-what's going on!?" Terios asked, stunned and fearful as to whatever it was that was going on. For a moment, he saw Zach standing over a void, and then he looked about. "Why is everything black!?" He asked as he saw everything covered in darkness with exception to a few distant stars across the land.
~~~~~
"I am saying that you have also doomed all existence to an eternal end, and those that have survived... They are trapped in stasis... Trapped in their current position, alone and tortured... That thing there... She will spend all eternity in that bondage... And it is all. Your. Fault." He said with a smile, laughing smally. "You are a fool. A weak fool." He mocked, starting to step backward.

"..." Leo seethed, unable to move. He knew very well he did not have a move to make. Anything at this point could mean death.
~~~~~~~
"I don't know, but keep close to Vorpal, okay?" Alma asked as she stared at the darkness, finding Zach across from her. "How... I got to do somezhing, but what? ZACH!"
No answer.
"Ugh, he can't hear me...."
It was by then that Patrick had disappeared into the darkness.
Almost immediately, at another location, Patrick walked through the darkness, standing behind Jace. "Time has ceased," the man said. "Almost everyone is stuck in the folds of time." He explained. "But you... Due to your unique position... You are free to travel between the holes... In the rifts," he continued. "You have the position with which to free the universe of this fate." Jace gasped, having been frightened as a result of the darkness. "Who... what...?" he breathed as he took a step back, his arms held to his chest reflexively. "Me...? What? Are you saying because I was stuck in that white hellhole, I can travel through the holes? How the HELL do I free the universe of this?" he asked, seeing Glenn and Aria frozen in time. "This is so fucking creepy."
"Hm... I wonder... Do you know what the root cause of all this is?" Patrick asked. "It is the man who kidnapped your daughter... It is from him coming into conflict with an anomaly of energy which, by its very existence, was slowly destroying time itself." He shook his head. "You have the potential to go forward and find the ones who can end this anomaly... If they are not, themselves, frozen in the folds of time..." He spoke calmly. "If you find them... Then maybe you can have them free the world from this fate."
"I think I'm better off doing that. Unfortunately, I don't know where to start. Then again, it seems as if I have all the time in the world! Ha... irony," Jace said with a nod. "Yeah, I need to do something. This is rather painful to watch," he said before running out of the door. He glanced upward, wondering where to even start. Maybe shouting could be heard?
"HEY! CAN ANYONE HEAR ME!?" he cried.
But there was no response. The world was frozen, only a precious few able to do anything, and those that could, most of them were completely alone and unable to see anyone else, indeed, unable to even communicate. There were, of course, the lucky few that weren't alone.
Zach stared across the boundary, making a silent motion. 'I love you,' He worded across the void at his wife, being alone with his sleeping child. He didn't know how long it had been, but it was the influence of his wife and adoptive son that kept him sane.
'I love you too,' Alma replied as she sighed, afraid of how much longer they were going to be here. Forever? Until they starved? What? Is that possible?
Jace continued to shout, knowing that there was nothing there. He groaned. "I don't even know where... Maybe Heimdall?" he asked before running over to the village. A clear, thorough search and nothing. "Should I even check.... maybe Keterburg? Maybe Baticul? Where?"
Of course, there was no way for the universe to give him any indication, and as most of the world was made up of indescribable blackness, even going in the right direction would be a near impossibility. It must have been strange to see animals stuck, frozen in the middle of motions and unable to act, or react, simply standing there in place, some even those in mid leap, like a fox in the air, trying to pounce upon a rabbit.
Of course, no longer how long it had been, they never seemed any less full, any more tired, or to change in any way, shape, or form. The fact that they had been able to develop an entire language of nonverbal communication must have been some indicator of how long they had been in the bubbles. Zach, noting this, had, by some point, just of boredom, impaled himself on the Flamberge, and dived into another world, though one that was no less turbulent.
Alma blinked, having noticed what Zach did. She then glanced at Vorpal, having an idea herself. She decided to stab herself, wondering if it would help in any way. She then lifted her blade, flipped it, and then stabbed herself with it, causing her to collapse. Please... let this save us...
~~~~~
Zach landed in the world and began to look around, blinking. "Sheesh... It doesn't look much better here, does it?" He asked. "Like the sky itself is torn apart..." He mumbled, realizing that the torn sky had spaces within that looked like the same inkiness that had covered the entire world. "Hello?" He called out, blinking. "Are you here... Talia?" He called out.
"Huh? HEY!" Talia shouted with a frantic wave as she ran over to Zach. With a tight hug, the woman explained the situation, "Hey... it's very shitty 'round here. Guess the world is jus' goin' insane. What's goin' on out there?" she asked as she pulled back with a frown. "This is jus'... odd, don't ya believe? Zach... I need a good explanation, now."
"... I don't know..." Zach admitted with a frown. "We went to the world tree after we spoke to you last, and well... From there we saw this orb of darkness... It wrapped around everything... And well... Alma and I were trapped in two separate orbs... We couldn't get to each other... We couldn't talk to each other... Or hear anything from the other circle... I don't know how long it was like that either... It felt like it could have been years... It was long enough that... Wait!" He exclaimed. "Will Alma remember everything I do with you? Everything we do together?"
"Man, rough. But yea, she'll remember. Why?" Taly asked as she placed a hand to her chin. She seemed concerned about the situation. How would they even be trapped in orbs? It would have been rather odd, but they were capable of defying everything. Darkness though...
Dark was bad, and when it encases everything, it's only worse. It could threaten the world if it wished.
"... It means we can communicate..." Zach explained. "We can talk... And she'll remember... So we'll have been together for a bit..." He spoke. "Something that we haven't been able to do... For years... That's what it feels like... Loneliness... Infinite loneliness..." He spoke. "I mean... Do you know what that feels like?" He asked. "Because... I had never hurt that much before..."
"...Yeah, I know. However, it wasn't by choice. I've been in so much pain once. Gary and I separated fer a few years jus' for some stupid treasure. I never told him, but I cried for quite a few nights, ya know. It was very lonely. She'll remember. An' yeah, she can communicate in a way. This was a very good idea ya came up with." Taly hugged Zach again. "But we need to focus on the threat at hand."
"Yeah," Zach spoke, hugging the woman back. "But, yeah..." He stood up after, looking about. "So... Um... What do we do, exactly?" He asked her, blinking. "I mean, I don't really know where to start... Ugh... Why do I feel so stupid?" He mumbled, beating his head. "I mean, I'm not... But Alma would be so much more useful for this than I would."
"Well, don't ya worry about it. I had an idea fer a bit! It kinda involves the sword. It may jus' have enough power to fix this mess! Besides, guess what!?" Taly explained with a grin. "It had the power at one point to cut through time an' space. So think about it. But there's probably a problem with that... ya both said you were separated?" she asked with a small sigh, her hand to her chin.
"Huh? Uh, yeah," Zach said. "But how the heck is it possible?" He mumbled. "We're too far off to do anything together... I mean... Yeah, there's about 15 feet between the two of us, but we can't talk or anything... It's harsh." He sighed. "But... Lucky thing, I suppose, We haven't grown older, I don't ever feel hungry there, and I guess... We're trapped in time too... We can just move..."
"Yeah, but that's not a good thing all the same. Have ya thought of breakin' out of time? Splittin' rifts?" Taly asked as she pointed out. "It is very well possible to tear a rift in time on Carleon. Ya jus' gotta use hyperresonance or somethin' to help ya. That way, ya can break out an' actually solve the problem! Probably with one stone! The ideas bein' birds, of course," she sighed as she placed her hands onto her hips. "Gah, maybe I'm jus' bein' a moron again."
"Um..." Zach blinked. "I... I guess that would be good... But... Um..." He looked left, then looked right. Then he looked at his feet. "Don't you kind of need... A seventh fonist for that?" He asked. No, he definitely was not Gary, no matter what it came down to. Gary, having been a descendant of Yulia and Luke fon Fabre, had been quite attuned to the seventh fonon. Zach, however, was neither of those things, and his body was not one that had access to the power they held.
"...WHAT!? OH SHIT! WE'RE SO FUCKIN' SCREWED!" Talia cried, exasperated. "We're in so much trouble! GAH!" she then ran around for a moment, then stopped. She had not expected this. She thought she could solve a problem for once, and when she tried, it blew up in her face, as usual. "Okay, I'm clever, but this is a bit much!" she cried out before tapping her foot. "Okay, plan B... PLAN B!!!"
Zach jumped back, very wide eyed, standing on one leg with fright. "Um... Er... W-wha..." He blinked. "What...? What? Er... Huh... Buh... What? WHAT?" He mumbled, caught in a loop of confusion due to everything that was happening. "What... What?" He asked, falling back onto his butt. "What... What is plan B?" He asked her, still completely stunned by all this. "I mean... Should I be afraid of Plan B?" He whimpered a little.
"Uh... no. I jus' don't have one," Taly pointed out with a deep sigh, drawing blanks to the plan. "Sorry, honestly, I donno what to do fer the world at this point. If Gary was here, he'd know I bet. He was always the brighter one."
"I suppose that we can find a solution. Never give up hope, after all," Gary said with a smile, hugging her. "There always has to be something that can be done, after all." He told her while kissing her forehead gently."For now, I think we should just make up for lost time. At the very least we can do that, no?"
"Ah, what?" Taly asked with a blink. "Okay... well... uh... sure! Ya!" she asked as she blinked. "Uh, I jus' wouldn't think that ya'd wanna play at a time like this. But that's jus' my thought. But I guess if time was frozen, there's nothin' to worry 'bout!"
"Well, what else can we really do?" Zach asked with a blink. "I mean... I think we'd need to have some stress relief, wouldn't we?" He said. "I mean, yeah, it isn't the best time, but... What else is there that we can do?" He asked."I've been missing you... I've been missing both of you." He said. "And... If we're fated to all eternity like this... Well, I don't want to be the one to give into despair!"
"Yeah, that's true," Taly muttered as she closed her eyes. "Ya gotta look forward though. Ya can't turn back, otherwise yer gonna fail," she whispered. "So don't let us down, alright? The stress relief... consider it a good luck charm."
"Don't make me laugh! There's no way that I'm going to fail!" Zach huffed a little "And... Well, you're always lucky." He said, deciding to try and do some terraforming, as he had been robbed of his last opportunity. In the end, though, all he could think of was his home, with all its traps. "I hope this place is okay," he breathed.
"Uh... it's really fine. Wow, brings back memories, though..." Taly replied. "So let's go!"
~~~~~
Of course, she would doubtless be launched into a turbulent inner world. Gary was staring up at the sky, a serious expression on his face. "So... Something has happened to the world..." He spoke, turning to face Alma. "Are you here looking for answers?" He asked her. "Because... I suppose it's something that we can do together... Though I'm not sure what we can find... Since I don't know what really is happening to the world outside."
Alma grimaced as she stared up at the sky. "Zhis iz insane..." she whispered as she turned her head to Gary. "Yes, somezhing haz happen. Zhere are strange rifts opening up, and I have no idea vhat to do vith it. Ve do not know vhat to do vith it, Gary," she whispered. "I don't even know vhere to even start, but everyvhere outside is broken. Time haz frozen. Ze vorld iz covered in absolute darkness."
"I see..." Gary closed his eyes. "Well... Maybe there can be something we can figure out," he said to her softly. "We've got some time, after all," He said, summoning up a library. "In here is all the information I've ever read... And anything you've ever read..." He explained. "In this life, or the last, even if you don't remember it."
"Vow... reading. Soundz like zhis vill be a long endeavor," Alma sighed deeply as she rubbed the back of her head. "So... zhere could definitely be an answer, right?" she asked. "Especially vhen someone haz a brilliant mind," she giggled, mentioning Gary.
"There is enough time," Gary said. "Of that, I am certain." He looked at her and smiled. "All that we need is enough faith in that truth." He told her. "This world has started to fall apart... It has been this way for... Well, far longer than one can imagine." He said. "We don't even have complete control anymore. So..." He turned to Alma. "Where were you when the world was hit?"
"Ve vere near ze vorld tree vhen it happened," Alma breathed as her ears flicked constantly. "Vhen haz the vorld started to fall apart? How? Who even did zhis? Vaz it... zhat man? Leo?" she asked, wondering if Gary knew anything about it. "Ve just... zhis needz to be solved!"
"... I couldn't know," Gary pointed out. "But, it doesn't seem to be anything that someone in our family could have accomplished... Not even Serenade." He sighed. "At least not alone... It would have taken something much more sinister to cause this... The energy that was causing time to rupture... I believe it is what caused all of this to happen." He explained, opening a book. "But... I think that the Eternal Sword may be the key... One way or the other, to break the seal on time."
"I... zhink it could too. But how iz zhat supposed to vork...? If vhat you said iz true, vouldn't it have to be ze Eternal Sword, and not just Vorpal and Flamberge?" Alma asked with a concerned look as she sighed. "Ve are trapped. Ve had both bladez out, but it only protected us, I suppoze. Ve can't reach each ozher zhough. So... how?"
"Well, the swords have some odd properties," Gary pointed out. "How proficient is Zach with the seventh fonon?" He asked. "I spent many years training to the point that I could summon forth the seventh fonon and crash it with myself to create a solo hyperresonance." He explained, crossing his arms and looking at a book. "However, if he can't control it, there's no guarantee that it would be safe... He could just get trapped in between the rift... Maybe if there were a way to sync your mana..." He mumbled, blinking. "But you'd need some kind of a conduit."
"...He izn't really all zhat proficient," Alma replied as she stared at Gary for a moment. She seemed to be thinking other thoughts, but if she did, she kept it to herself. "So zhere vould be no guarantee... however, ve have to try, right? Ugh, vhat vould zhe conduit be?" she asked as she thought for a moment. "Ze... air's mana vould be stabilized now, right? Couldn't zhat be uzed?" she asked, taking a complete shot in the dark.
"I see..." Gary said. "And... I don't know," He admitted. "Since I don't know what's happened to the world, I can't really say." He spoke. "But what you need is something that can travel between the spaces, something that can make contact with both of you, long enough to connect you. Or the swords." He told her, sitting down and staring at the ruined sky. "It's quite sobering, isn't it?"
"...I do not know vhat zhat could be. I'd do anyzhing zhough..." Alma replied. "Vait... vhat about you? Can't you both act az mediums?" she asked as she stared at the sky. "Ze sky may look ominous," Alma whispered as she furrowed her brows. "Gary, vhat do you zhink? Do you zhink somezhing like zhat could work?" Her mind seemed to be elsewhere, wavering in and out.
"No..." Gary spoke. "We can't enter the world outside." He explained to her. "Even if you two can communicate, your other side and I... We cannot help bond your energies like would be needed." He explained. "I don't know what would... But there has to be something... Maybe there is someone who can travel through the darkness... It may be the only hope... If not... To be like this... Trapped for all eternity... That's the fate of the universe..." He sighed. "So it's all down to luck then..." He whispered.
"Great... so vhat do ve do now? Just sit here and vait?" Alma asked, a little bummed that her idea couldn't be implemented. The world was most likely doomed at this point.
"I suppose that we can find a solution. Never give up hope, after all," Gary said with a smile, hugging her. "There always has to be something that can be done, after all." He told her while kissing her forehead gently."For now, I think we should just make up for lost time. At the very least we can do that, no?"
"I... I suppoze..." Alma whispered, feeling rather disturbed. Why should she make up for lost time now, when everything was in danger? She knew not much time would pass, but it just felt extremely uncomfortable to think about. She felt guilty, in fact. "Sorry, I just... I feel guilty for even zinking about it. Everyzhing iz in danger... I shouldn't be having fun here!"
"I understand," Gary said, hugging her and smiling. "Your trepidation is... Commendable." He picked up a book. "You have a sense of duty. To be honest, I had forgotten what that was like to some degree." He pointed out. "Well, I suppose we should get back to work, shouldn't we?" He asked, stretching. 'Time will stand still,' he thought. 'If there is nothing that can be done, will you simply give up on everything?' He wondered in his own mind.
"Ve should. Time iz essence, after all," Alma pointed out as she smiled, taking the compliment very well. She knew what it was like to have duty. She was to devote herself to duty for many years of her life, and even though she no longer was a noble, she was a mother and a wife, and those are two other different duties.
Gary nodded and continued to read. "The nice thing is, though, that time is relative." He told her. "The last thing you need to do right now is panic." He pointed out. "Time may be of the essence, but we also have all the time we'll ever need." He told her with a smile. "As long as we do not forget that, I think we'll do alright."
"Yeah... vell, let's get to vork," Alma replied as she began to read.
