Did anyone get to see the first episode last night? I watched it online. It followed the book closely, and I loved it for that

Nah, I don't have HBO. Where'd you see it online? I did read that NY Times published an incredibly sexist review of it, though. Where a lady writer insinuated that no woman could like something like this and far prefers Sex and the City style fare. She did concede that there might be SOME freaks out there, but none that she'd associate with.

I didn't think it was that great.

There were more "love scenes" and gratuitous nudity than anything else. Felt like a Medieval soap opera.

Production values were pretty impressive though.

Have you read the book? This is, pretty much, how it starts out. It doesn't stay all lovey dovey, but they were, basically, setting up various important plot lines...like the disgusting relationship between the queen and her brother. That is present throughout, though not, usually, in love scene ways. It serves as things like character motivations.

No, never read the books.

Just seemed like literally every other scene had boobs in it or sex of some kind. idk, I mean it's HBO, so I guess they feel like that's what they're audience is expecting and so they gotta oblige, but if the promise of boobs and soft core porn is all the show has to offer I don't think it's one I'll be following.

That isn't what it is about. It is about the fight to keep kingship or gain it for oneself both through politics and war as well as the approach of a supernatural element.
