Where dreams come to come true.

This was supposed to mainly be about music, but half of you guys purposely avoid the music area, probably cause nate and I are so formidable and scary ( ), so let's make it about all things TMP related: Video game misconceptions: The Legend of Zelda was made for grown-ups. I desperately wanted to play it because of the gold cartridge, but was told by my babysitter that I was too young to play it. She probably did me a favor though, cause Zelda is severely meh. Music misconceptions: I used to really worry if I heard a song when my parents weren't around, because I thought for sure I'd get in trouble. It didn't much matter what it was, but generally, they only played country radio around me, so I figured all other types of music were off limits. I loved the song "Walk the Dinosaur," and they got me the single, but I refused to listen to the b-side because I thought I'd get in trouble if I did. I felt uncomfortably rebellious when my babysitter would listen to New Kids on the Block. Movie/TV misconceptions: I thought The Silence of the Lambs was about bugs and thought it weird the title had lambs in it. I dunno. This was supposed to be about music, so whatever. Book misconceptions: Don't know. :\ |

My first parental advisory CD was DMX "And then there was X." Which is like your first non-G movie being Scarface. It terrified the hell out of me, but I also ate it up. The funny part was that the paper was some sort of strange weave that smelled funky. Since I got it from the library and it was a loud, scary rap album, I naturally assumed this was from cocaine being cut on it. Thus, I stuck the CD case behind my dresser until it was time to return it out of fear I might become addicted. |

I was a teenager when those parental advisory labels first started being used. My parents obviously refused to let me buy any music with these labels on them. Still, in those early days the labels were not printed on the cover, but rather a sticker was stuck on the outside of the jewel case. I used to remove these stickers with a bit of household oil, so that my parents wouldn't know. It was always awkward whenever they would ask to see the cd I purchased though, because they'd read track titles that included swear words and ask, "How is this not a parental advisory cd?" ;) |

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

For years, when my aunt would play Dazz Band's "Let It Whip," I never realized that the hook lyrics were: "We both are here to have the fun, so let it whip." When I heard the song, I thought the lyrics said: "Because we all came here from Africa, so let it whip." Song made more sense to me that way since I was black back then... |

I use to think being older would mean being able to do more, see more, etc. but now that I am, leaving the house starts an internal debate if it's even worth leaving my nice comfy bed for. |
