FUNimation and Aspect Ratios; This is about Ouran High School Host Club

Where dreams come to come true.
So I was pretty excited about the Ouran High School Host Club Blu-ray coming out on Tuesday, but in the back of mind, a lingering issue of aspect ratio floated in the back of my head. I remember the show being in a 4:3 full screen ratio, but I noticed the Blu-ray is a 16:9 widescreen ratio. To double check, I looked at the same DVD set, and boom...4:3.

Why, FUNimation? I really wanted to pick this up because I remember Ouran as a clean, sharp, and crisp show visually, a real delight. What better way to relive that than with a HD transfer? But I want to experience the show in the ratio it was created in. I really don't want a fabricated widescreen ratio that either stretches or cuts off the picture. A real dud in my book.

Now I'm on the fence. I'd gladly downgrade to the DVD if I couldn't get both for the exact same price. But yeah, surely I'm not the only person who isn't happy about the altering of aspect ratios. I don't accept it when a widescreen ratio is transferred to full screen, why would I accept it when it's the other way around? Disappointed in this potential release even though I'd love to have it.

I just watch episodes of their anime on their streaming service. When it works that is.
