Final Fantasy VI

I was thinking about this one the other day and I feel I may've been too harsh on it. To be honest, there are a number of good points about it. I like the characters a lot. It's got the absolute best music of any Final Fantasy. It has some really cool locations. The first half of the game is absolutely awesome. As in, Top 5 FFs awesome. Unfortunately, the giant directionless fetch quest that was the World of Ruin killed the game for me. I'd really love to see a DS remake for it where they gave it a little more structure.

The party splitting is what got old to me. I'm reliving it with FF13. I was also disappointed with the world of ruin. It took me several years just to finally sit down and finish the game because of how bored I got with that part. Similar to how it was hard for me to finish FFX

Music-wise, I'd have to agree. It's the most consistent soundtrack out of all the FFs I've played.

I want XBLA to support rehashes of the entire series so that I can play them with Achievement points. That's the motivation I'd need to finish titles like FF1, FF3, FF5 and FF9.

Like...everything...and the most memorable, beautiful and most iconic scene in Final Fantasy history...and the greatest video game villain ever

Opera scene was great, and tremendously groundbreaking, but I disagree that it was the most iconic in the series. There's one in Final Fantasy VII that I'd say is a little more important, to not only the series, but video game storytelling in general.

I loved FFVI. I think FFVI is the only RPG where I actually completed as much sidequest stuff as possible and never got bored of it. I think there was only a couple of things i didn't do in the game. By the end of the game, I whooped Kefka's ass in seconds (literally).

Only pansies cried at that

FFV killed off a main character long before it. Phantasy Star II killed off a main character before FFV did.

Phantasy Star 2's character was gone for good, though. FFV's basically swapped places with someone else.

TBH, I am not quite sure what scene GLS is talking about, though.

He is talking about Aerith's death I am pretty sure. I fail to see how it was new or ground breaking. It pretty much copied Phantasy Star II. At least the characters in that game TRIED to bring her back though. I am pretty sure that that game deserves the credit that FFVII gets for killing a main character. You cannot do something major to change story telling and whatnot if you are copying something that came before

I sprinted through the final dungeon with avoid enemies on and I still destroyed the final boss in seconds. He is, without a doubt, the easiest FF final boss.

Also, the opera scene? It was cool, but there is absolutely no way it's had the cultural impact something like the FFVII scene did. And who cares if someone did it first? Since when does that make something more impactful or well done?

You're missing the point. It's not about which came first, it's about which had the relevancy. People still talk about that FFVII scene as one of the most important scenes in video game history. I know you didn't like the game, but it's ridiculous for you to discount the impact the game and that scene had on gaming, and why that's easily more important than the opera scene. And who even talks about Phantasy Star nowadays? That'd be like saying The Godfather is not the most important gangster movie of all time because The Public Enemy or Little Caesar came first. Make that argument.

I think you are confusing being more important with being better. I think Phantasy Star 2 is better than FFVII. I do not dislike FFVII. IT just gets a hell of a lot of credit that it does not, never has and never will deserve

Uh, fs, you called the opera scene the most iconic. That is a descriptive regarding less the quality of the item, but weighs more the importance of the item. :) By all means, the FFVII scene is far more iconic than the opera scene, regardless of how you feel about the quality of the two.

And I might be interested to know what areas FFVII doesn't deserve the credit it gets. Was it the first to do a lot of things? Of course not. Was it the most important to do a lot of things? By leaps and bounds. It brought RPGs to the forefront of gaming in the West, it singlehandedly birthed the cinematic RPG, it shaped the landscape of video game and RPG storytelling. Not to mention it's one of the longest standing single titles of all time. How often does one game in a series spawn its own series? You can not like something and still recognize it's relevance to popular culture as a landmark event or title. FFVII is probably the most important or iconic RPG of all time. Sure, FFVI may be better, PSII may have done it first, but FFVII is the most indispensable.

And the Opera scene IS the most iconic scene. Moving on.
