Bioshock 2's DLC is ON THE DISC. :(

The industry has been warning people it was going this way for a while now to manage the increased cost of development, I'm not going to begrudge them making a living. However, if it's already on the disc it should be covered by the price when I payed for it.

It doesn't count as editing decisions if the always planned on releasing the content. It's also not analogous to non interactive media. (bonus materials on dvds and such are there to sell the hard copies)

It's probably more like buying a box of chocolates with a false bottom, sure what you get seems fair on the surface and you may not like whats on the bottom but up untill fairly recently you would have had to just keep digging to find it or not, instead they tell you it's there only it costs extra. It wouldn't bother people if they didn't find out but games are appearing more scaled back so you get the impression you're getting less initially than you use to for the price and the add dlc content isn't bonus like it should be but filling the gaps

It doesn't matter to me if ti was planned editing or not. I understand they have time constraints and deadlines. And not everything can get onto the disc on time so some comes later. But to actually put effort into locking something so you can charge to unlock it. I mean you put in actual man hours above and beyond the making of to lock it so I have to pay for it. Hours that could have been used into polishing or bug testing or on hookers and blow. I don't care. It seems like a make work project.

I dunno I may just stop getting release day games and just wait for the "complete"/"GOTY" versions a year or two later. I blame LBP

So, would you guys be totally fine with this if the game cost an extra $10-15 upon purchase assuming the DLC on disc is unlocked (or can be unlocked through gameplay, blah, blah, blah)? Granted, it's on disc, so there's no option at all for people who don't want the DLC, but it's fair this way, since it's on the disc.

No GLS. If the content was finished and stuck on a disk, that means it could have just been added into the game. That this content is purposely cut from the final product, yet left hidden on the disk, just to charge gamers for it later is reprehensible.

This is exactly the problem I have with DLC. It makes me feel like I am getting an unfinished product.

But that's what I'm saying. If they want to charge you for that, would you be fine with them charging an extra $10-15 for the game itself?

They already cost 10 bucks more for nuthing. I have been paying 10 bucks more for over a year now. SO if they were to offer the DLC since I am already paying the extra well it isn't DLC and it isn't free. I am just getting the content on the 70 dollar disc Ijust bought. I don't really mind paying the extra on top of it if it didn't go down the way it did. Think about it. They need a hosting server to generate the unlock code which costs them money. They need to lock in the content that costs them money. So they are spending all this money for what? To charge us more for it later? They couldn't leave the disc content unlocked and then use the same resources to pick a scene of the floor and use that?

It depends on the content/game but probably. I'd rather have a complete/finished game when I walk away from the register like you use to get in the good old days. Now they are testing how much they can strip out to make a passable base model game when all the "extra" they are selling to people now would have been included to entice people into buying the game in the first place. I don't even want to get into the lack of appropriate testing these new games are getting because they can be patched later if enough people complain about the issue.

besides which companies don't always out live the games, so at best you're only renting dlc for an unspecified period of time instead of buying it like you did the game.

To go a bit off topic...

I'd like to point out that one of the reasons I am so loyal to Atlus as a company is because they do not do things like this. They give their customers freebies all the time, like amazing pre-order bonuses for little or often no extra cost. They are a company doing business the right way, by showing that they care about their customers and providing us with an excellent, complete final product. Because I can see this level of quality and care, I don't hesitate to support them with future game purchases.

Goodwill can be prove to be more valuable than a quick buck, I think.

They have a 70 page thread going on thier forums

I still would like an explanation as to how this being open to all for free would split the userbase. And how charging people for it won't. I played a few rounds and everyone could do stuff I couldn't because of my rank. Like inferno plasmid. That stirkes me as splitting the userbase as it is.
