I've been really hankering for a good anime or manga recently. I haven't watched anything since Death Note, really. And since you're the man responsible for recommending both Death Note and Monster to me, your word is pretty much gold in my book where this stuff is concerned. So I'm kind of thinking about Fullmetal Alchemist with anime. It's only 2 DVD sets, so not break the bank expensive. I remember really liking the first chunk before getting frustrated and quitting (I think it was because I thought it was neverending like Inuyasha or whatever). But I thought I remembered you saying it was really awesome a while ago. Other recommendations? What about Evangelion? Should I try Bleach? I'm hesitant towards that since it really is neverending and I've heard the quality drops off. And I wouldn't like quitting in the middle of a series. Or I could bypass anime entirely and start up a manga series. As far as that goes, I'm completely in the dark, so that'd all be you. I loved Monster and Death Note, which were both your recommendations, so clearly you've got a good grasp of my tastes there. I actually picked up a book called "Not Simple" on a whim today cause the art caught my eye, it was a single book and the back sounded cool, so we'll see how that goes. |

Where dreams come to come true.

The Fullmetal Alchemist anime is tremendous. That's actually a pretty good recommendation. And like you said, it's in an economical package now, so it's good to get on that. I need to rewatch it actually. If you decide on it, let me know, I'll watch it as you're watching it. But other recommendations? I'll cover what you mentioned, then make a recommendation or two of my own. Uh, Bleach starts off great, but the anime does hit a wall after about 60 episodes, and I quit watching after about 120. I'm actually somewhat close to quitting the manga, since it hasn't been at the same level since about episode 60/volume 20. I mean, to that point, it's a top flight action series with a good imagination, and great style. I don't know when it'll end or if it'll even be worth seeing through to the end. But if you're willing to kind of let it end where it does and accept the end of the arc as the end of the series, it's well worth it. Watching or reading, the fight scenes are among the best Evangelion, I really don't know. I didn't care for it. I found it to be kind of full of itself. There are some really amazing scenes, I mean, absolutely peak of the entire medium stuff, but I found the series itself to be incredibly hit or miss. Either really good or really boring. I did enjoy the End of Evangelion movie though. I ended up selling the entire series, but I kept the movie, haha. I'd say if you can rent it or get it from the library, it's kind of worth seeing on its merits, but I wouldn't recommend sinking purchase money into it, since I'm not sure how you would feel about it. The series I would actually recommend, however, is a series called Honey and Clover. You can read it (ten volumes, though i think only eight or nine are out right now) or watch it (three dvd sets of 13 episodes), it's comparable quality on either medium. It's a series about college students dealing with concerns about love, the future, work, and really, just things you worry about in your early 20's. The drama comes across equally well on both sides, but the comedy translates much better in the anime. A couple of anime that are kind of in the vein of Bleach in the sense that they're supernatural action series that attempt to focus on character aspects more, but does have an appropriate length and ending would be Fate/stay night and X (tv series, not the movie). I'm not too sure on the availability of X at the moment though. I would recommend One Piece, but unless say the library has it, it's not a series to just recommend buying, given the sheer length of it (but it doesn't take a hit in quality through about 55 volumes, haha). I'm not entirely familiar with what you have seen, so I may be missing something obvious, but Fullmetal Alchemist and Honey and Clover are two good enough recommendations that it can do for now, ha. I do have a movie recommendation though: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's one of the best anime films in recent years. Very subdued sense of humor and entertaining film. Which reminds me, have you seen any Satoshi Kon movies? Perfect Blue (which is a little uncomfortable to watch at times), Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent (TV series), Paprika? I'd give them all a recommendation, but I would probably be careful with Perfect Blue if you don't want to feel uncomfortable watching it. Sorry for recommending too much... |

A long time ago I asked GLS to get me into anime. I watched a whole listing of shows one night, and only one interested me (one with pirates I think lol). Only time I ever watched anime lol. |

Nate, if you don't mind subs then Hulu, Funimation and Viz all have anime up to watch. In fact, I think Funi has like 400 episodes up of One Piece with a mix of subs and dubs. |

Finished not simple. MAN, what a messed up book. It's like Greek tragedy mixed with Tommy with constant plot twists turned to 11. Well written, really gripping, but seriously twisted. Not what I was expecting/hoping for. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations. I'm gonna pick up S1 of FMA. Honey and Clover sounds good, but... that art? Is the interior art as bad as the cover art? I mean, it looks like bad high school girl from the 80s art. And I'll check out those movie recs when we get Netflix. |

I don't know what you have and haven't watched, but I think you'd actually like Gundam Wing. It's one of my favorites, and has all that political hoohah that get you government people all hot and bothered. FMA is also a great choice. Part of me wishes that I wasn't falling away from anime. I mean, I still have my FMP!, Gundam Wing, and Cowboy Bebop boxes, but I haven't watched them in over a year. |

bleach has some amazing moments thats definitely worth watching through the boring start to get to, but I haven't watched bleach or any other animes since grade 9 so it might not be as great now that im not a 12 year old kid anymore. |

I think 14 when they enter and 15 when they exit. 16 is driving and that was 10th grade and 18 is graduating and going to college, so it seems right. |

A lot of states are 18 now for driver's licenses. 16/17 is permits only now. At least that is how it is in Florida. |

Well, boost is Canadian anyway, so I don't know what his driving age was anyway. I was just talking it through as to how I got 14-15. ;) |

Going by how they drive, I would say they are given a license when they can hit the pedals. |
