Based on (or inspired by) a true story... about a young man unexpectedly parting with his family and donating his 24k savings away to live the life of.... let's put it simply, like a hobo. He travels around the world and makes special relationships with hippies, an old man, a farmer, and some others.... and his only goal is to get to Alaska and live in the wild.. climb mountains, etc.

Awesome movie, and a lot of the events did happen, and many of the people he met were real, but some parts (as always) were exaggerated and some of the people from the movie were not based on someone he met in his real lifetime.

This takes place between 1990-1992, going back and forth throughout the movie of living out in Alaska, and how he actually got there.

I have the book. I read a couple chapters and put it back on the shelf because the kid is an absolute idiot. I mean, this guy went out there completely, 100% unprepared. But, I do really like Krakauer's stuff, so I'll probably pick it up again.

He made it through some crazy stuff... do you know how it ends? Obviously I won't tell, but a lot of people already know the story. J/w is all.

Yeah, I know how it ends. Really though, how could it end any other way?

Well... it could end when he decides to change from that lifestyle and choose something different.... then it tells what he is up to at the present time (the year the film is finished) and then that's it. I guess. IDK lol.
