Get it girl! I turned the Miss America Pageant on tonight kind of randomly (I needed something light after an alien gore movie nate and I watched tonight). And VA won! I didn't think she was the best singer, but the yellow dress and the interview question were awesome. It went something like this: Q "What should parents do about child obesity rates" A "Turn off the TV, put your children in the streets with sticks, and have them play using their imagination" Mind image: Children whacking each other in the streets with sticks. Gangsta. :P I thought her answer was a bit too spunky for the judges, but apparently not! :) |

Also, the best part of watching it was guessing what kind of talent each girl was doing based on her outfit. I pegged the opera singers like a pro. Miss Hawaii was tricky bc there was no way she was going to hula dance, that was too goofy and stereotypical.... so I thought. |

I didn't watch this for two reasons; the first reason is that I didn't know it was coming on, and the second reason is because I really don't like pageants in general. It is nice to know that a girl from Virginia won though. I decided to google the winner to see a picture and she's very nice looking. As for the answer to the question, I think she has kind of the right idea, but I'd say that if parents wanted to get serious about their child's health, they would tell their child's schools to support PE. Many schools these days are dropping PE classes so that they can spend more time teaching kids how to memorize something just long enough to fill in the correct circles on the SOL tests. It is important to give kids time to play and blow off steam, because it will allow them release the energy they have built up (which could turn disruptive in a classroom) while getting some healthy physical activity as well. Miss America is an affront to women and Americans, put kids out on the streets with sticks indeed, if this is what wins these things we should all pick a day to drink the kool-aid cause it's over. There was another group of kids with sticks let loose without supervision, there was even a book written about them, Lord of the Flies, and we all know how well that worked out. When I go out I do not want to have to face an armed mob of bloated human larvae because they need exercise and thier parents don't want to have to deal with them, hell I don't want to deal with them. The right answer is strap them to treadmills and set them to high for the 8hrs a day the kids are doing nothing or make them do chores the useless lumps. Stupid pageants. |
