No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!
What would giving you a laundry list of my thoughts add to either one of our points? Most of my responses would be just my opinion. It's not about wrong or right to me. It's about what gamers like and don't like. To me, that's all I took from the article. Some stuff I agreed with, some stuff I was indifferent toward. No sweat to me. But I've found often times that these types of articles stir up anger in people when it should not.

However, If you are just interested in seeing my thoughts on the differences between the two genres and what I prefer in both, I'll list it for you by the numbers in this article. Just lemme know.

Also, I stated before that everyone getting angry at this is taking the article as an absolute. I'm sure this dude could just as easily make a "What's wrong with WRPGs" article. I know I could. Just because he singled out JRPGs is no reason to assume that he doesn't take issues with WRPGs as well.

No I mean point for point. He makes it out like all WRPGs get all these things right and when in reality 1 game maybe 2 get it right and there is games from both sides that get it wrong. Not to mention there is a ton of JRPGs that also get it right. Well except for the MP. I mean if your game doesn't start out with MMO then it doesn't need online plain and simple.

When western developers have perfected the art of making RPGs then this article is valid. If any developer takes this article to heart and starts making games based on it we are screwed. Lets spend millions on getting this well known actor to voice this character. Then give him some crappy dialogue to read. Right before we kill him off in the first 5 minutes of the game. Half the article is counter productive and the other half applies to more than just one sub genre but to almost all games.

I think you and many others are reading more than what is there. He said:

Convention 'X' sucks... X JRPG Got it wrong, Y WRPG got it right...

And yes, there are exceptions to the rule. But by in large much of what he listed are issues that JRPGs have had. WRPGs have even shared some of these issues. I think you are just making a small article in the grand scheme of a person's thoughts into an absolute.

You can't expect an article on the internet to cover EVERY objective issue. I think that's what many people are up in arms about. if I say, I hate a lot about plums, it doesn't mean that apples can do no wrong even if I use good things about apples to contrast what I hate about plums.

It is because he made it an absolute. If he had worded it so it wasn't then I would be in agreement with you. I don't expect them to cover everything. I do expect them to remain unbiased which this article isn't. If all those people in the retaliation article only judge Westerners by this it is no wonder they think we are a bunch of retards.

The only way it could be absolute is if you knew what his beliefs were in total about the other side. But the reader is not given that information. And it's a biased article. The dude is talking about his opinions on the matter. How can you expect him to be unbiased when sharing his opinion? What would make you and the rest of the angry mob happy in this case? Would he have to make an article outlining what is wrong with Western RPGs to atone for his sins?

Here's the bottom line of my point: He NEVER said that WRPGs were innocent or above reproach. Just because he takes issue with JRPGs (which he does claim to love in the beginning of the article) doesn't mean he doesn't take issues with WRPGs. But you seem to be taking it that way. However, the focus of the article was pointing out frustrations with Modern JRPGs compared to some of the WRPGs that got it right in his opinion.

It just seems to me that you and other readers are inferring the rest without all the facts. And I'm not going to say that you are wrong. As I stated earlier, I don't know this dude or his thoughts in total, so I can't make the judgment without all the facts.

What do you think they have building all of those robots for? Sure they seem cute and fun with them dancing and serving guests and climbing walls, but when ASIMO and AIBO sense their creator's hate they will kill without hesitation or emotion.
