Games finished in 2010

I just finished Bayonetta tonight. I took long enough playing this game, but that's because I had to keep stopping after each chapter just to catch my breath and calm down. This game is intense! Everything about Bayonetta, from the CG to the combat is just so over the top that I found it overwhelming at times and even got a headache on a couple occasions. Despite the fact that I was able to finish the game, I'm not very good at playing action games like Bayonetta. Below is a list of my likes and dislikes of this game...

Likes
- The absolute craziness of the game. This game goes so far over the top at times that it just becomes silly, but I think that's kind of the point. Part of this is the humor as well, and this game drops references to lots of other games like MadWorld, DMC, Resident Evil, Halo, etc...
- There is plenty to do. I played the game through on the default Medium difficulty, but that unlocks Hard upon completion, which then unlocks Non-Stop Action Climax mode (for which I can only imagine how badly I'd get my ass kicked). There are plenty of unlockables and even an online leader board for level times and combos, so you can see how you stack up against everyone else.
- The music is great. There are a lot of catchy J-pop tunes to kick butt to, including "Fly Me to the Moon", which if you don't like already, you'd better learn to love it.
- The graphics are highly detailed. This game looks incredible! Everything is so ornate and detailed especially the angels and other divine creatures you have to fight. This game really looks great.
- The boss fights are insane! I mean to tell you that every boss in the game is huge on a scale only seen in games like SOTC or Demon's Souls, perhaps even bigger. I can't say that the game makes the best use of these bosses size in battles, but they are all sufficiently jaw droppingly big.

Dislikes
- I didn't care for the insane amount of occult stuff in this game. I think you guys know how I feel about hidden symbolism in media, including video games, and this game is no exception. Sun worship is a very big theme of Bayonetta. To be honest, there were more than enough illuminati references in this game to rival other recent games like Assassin's Creed, The Conduit, etc...
- The difficulty of this game was insane. Perhaps it's because I'm not very good at action games that I had such a hard time with several sections of the game, but there are others online who are fans of this genre saying that this game is indeed harder than Ninja Gaiden or DMC. I can't say that Bayonetta is really any harder, at least not on normal difficulty, but I found it highly challenging and extremely intense.
- Button mashing has got to stop! Bayonetta has special "torture attacks" and "infernal demon attacks" that require button mashing. The faster you mash the more powerful the attack will be. This can get a little old as the game goes on, but these attacks are so powerful that skipping these opportunities is not in the best interest of your survival.

Overall, I give this game a B+.

PS3
Valkyria Chronicles
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (2x)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2x)- Platinum
Heavy Rain (2x)- Platinum
Final Fantasy XIII

PSN
Braid
flow
Trine
Linger in Shadows
Critter Crunch

DS
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

PC
Crayon Physics Deluxe

So beat Heavy Rain and am working on a 2nd time through (about 2/3 done with that, then I'll tidy up the trophies I missed and do the endings for a Platinum). I also downloaded and 100%ed Linger in Shadows. I saw a number of you guys had played it and then saw "Interactive Art" and my mind jumped to Flower. Well... it's no Flower. I'm not sure I really "get" it. I'm cool with the idea of finding and manipulating art, but I wish the manipulation would've actually done something like unlock a branching path or something instead of just rewind and trip out.

I accidentally initiated the first transition in the game and it scared the crap outta me. When the screen breaks and it goes all creepy.

A good fantasy RPG but don't expect Mass Effect dialogue.

Mass Effect 2

Hey they fixed alot of the annoyances but unfortunately that meant stripping down the game a bit. Loved it!!!

Linger in the Shadow

WTF???

Flow

Is this really a game?

Last Rebellion

Well I like the trophies (and not for the points). They are funny and a couple sets tell a little story. The game is trash and is definitely a nomination for the worst of 2010.

Transformers 2 (both campaigns)

Well it was a little better than the first. Which is like saying getting a cavity filled is more fun than a root canal.

I beat Critter Crunch. Lemme tell ya, I did NOT see that one coming. I hit a road block somewhere in the early to mid 30s and could not beat the levels. The fact I beat the ones I couldn't before and all the way through 45 is nothing short of amazing. I'm a little in shock. I thought this was gonna be one of those games that stayed unbeaten cause I lacked the skills.

Bioshock 2

For how technically sound it is (although I did keep getting this line going down my screen, only when I play it though) it wasn't very good. Get sister, defend sister then do whatever to her. Rinse and repeat while some guy keeps talkin in your ear. Good ending not nearlt as good as 1. Infact nothing was really as good as 1 except for the graphics upgrade (however slight it was). Will have to see bad ending down the line but not anytime soon.

Just beat the story mode in BlazBlue. WOW. That definitely takes the cake for the absolutely worst done story mode ever. The story's awful, it's left completely unresolved, each chapter is an alternate take on a story that you haven't seen the actual take of yet, the scripting is terrible, acting worse and the story itself makes absolutely no sense. What an awful, awful excuse for a mode.

Dragon Age Awakenings. It was better than the original except shorter. Fixed alot of my gripes about it (like getting stuck in a conversation to nowhere when all you wanted to do was loot a body). No forced party chatting. It all happens by triggering certain items, statues ect. Still got bogged down in scavenger hunts though. And the battles weren't all that much harder for the most part. Just larger numbers of enemies swarming you. And the final boss is so cheap. I spent more time on my back than I did fighting.

I just finished The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It is the best of the 3D Zelda games, but it does have some flaws. The story is fantastic, though. It offers up the best Zelda story ever, by far. Midna is the best and most fleshed out character in the series history and Link was extremely expressive despite his continuing silence. It was an epic and amazing game. I was sad to see it end.

I am going to get back to Brave Fencer Musashi next as well as Red Faction Guerrilla. Keep your eyes open for my review of Twilight Princess. I have a site to maintain, which means I have reviews to write :P
