No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!
|
Fellas. This is for those of you who are considering getting this game. I don't have the time or all of the information to give you right at this moment because I'm still on the final boss fight and want to see how this pans out. However, do NOT go out and buy this game until I post my final thoughts. There are some issues that make be deal breakers for you guys. More info to follow, I just know a few of you said you may get it soon and I want to stop you until I have all the facts and have time to post some of the issues that arise late in the game. 8) |

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

Ok... If you read my previous post, you'll understand why I made a completely separate topic. My concern with updating the original was that the few of you considering purchasing this game may brush a reply off as another unimportant quest status update. I want to make it clear that none of you should buy this game. It's a crying shame too. This game was able to pull of an amazing funfactor for the first 10hrs of play. It had its flaws. Framerate, retarded level balancing in certain parts, etc. But overall, it was scheduled to make my top 10 RPGs without a hitch. Unfortunately the undying ball dropping and ridiculousness of the later hours of the game start to wear on you. BUT, eventually, the funfactor picks back you, your levels finally allow you to do battle as the stronger party and all is well........ Until you get to the final battle. This is the MAIN reason I'm suggesting you not buy this game. Many of you prefer the JRPG route. One of the things that I also prefer about JRPGs is the ability to level to your heart's content. Doing so allows you to balance fights to your liking. I personally LOVE to power level and destroy my enemies. Understand that this game will absolutely hinder you from leveling at your leisure. You will be at the mercy of the storyline to determine your levels. And in many areas, you WILL get served until you get lucky enough to pick off enough goblins to level up ONCE so that they can't destroy you as quickly. That's not the worst of it though. You will spend most of the game, slightly overleveled. You will enjoy dispatching enemies with moderate ease. Understand that this is a ruse. You will think that all is good when you enter the final boss fight because the minibosses were unable to even damage you on your way to the final fight location. And when I say no damage... I mean NO damage. You literally kill them and lose no HP at all. Then you get served in 4 seconds flat fighting the last fight. The final boss fight is COMPLETELY unbalanced and impossible if you did not customize your character just right over the course of the 50hr game. I am not speaking figuratively. That fight is IM-POSSIBLE if you do not use your skill points right. I had to load an old save, go back to my skill trainer, spend $5000 to unlearn all my skills and then spend another $20,000 boosting what I thought would help me win. Thankfully, after 4 more deaths, I got lucky and beat the final boss. But why give the gamer the ability to choose where his skill points go if the choice could end up being wrong. The game gives you freedom and then basically says you used your freedom wrong. There is no excuse for this. The game does nothing to advise you on how you should build your character, but then punishes you if you don't do it just right. I've been on the game's official website and seen a gang of people say they finally gave up after losing several times because they did not want to load an old save and do it again. Also, don't let reviews fool you into thinking this game is open world. It's not. Once you get to a certain point in the story, entire regions are no longer accessible for the rest of the game. That means if you left a quest undone, you can't get the money and XP that you desperately need from finishing the quest. Apparently, this is an issue in all of their games. I saw folks on the website complaining that the devs weren't listening to the fans because they begged them not to have the "you can't go here anymore" concept in future games. Also, the ending leaves you open to believe there will be another sequel. But overall, it was a typical whackass WRPG ending. Sadly, I have to give this game a negative nod. And I hate to do it because so much about it was right for me. But the devs apparently all started droppin acid while they were developing the last 20hrs of the game. Again, it's really sad, because this game had SO much going for it. But to hand you a potentially impossible fight at the end of a game that you pretty much coast thru was just foul. Especially because you couldn't go back and level to get stronger in order to win it. And even moreso because strategy doesn't help. You either used your skill points just right, or you die. (I didn't mention that once you enter the last dungeon, there is NO turning back or leaving to go do unfinished quests for more XP) |

 Don't missunderstand me. I DID like this game and am glad I played it. I'm just pointing out its fatal flaws that I'm pretty sure you guys won't forgive it for. I played the game to the fullest and did every quest except for 4 of them. So for me, the last fight was simply about realigning skills. However, if you don't play this game like an obsessive compulsive quest finisher (which I am), you will get served. So for me, the overall experience was good. it just has a fatal flaw that is unforgiveable and one that I know would piss you guys off a lot more than me because you probably wouldn't take the time to do every quest like I did. |

Yes, but maybe we wouldn't level our characters ass backwards and coast through the whole thing. ;) |

That's the problem I am addressing. There is no way to know if you are customizing ass backwards or not if you haven't played the game. I played as a warrior so I can only speak for that class. But you basically have to invest almost all of your points in 3 very specific abilities to win the game as a warrior. Again, no way to know that because every other battle besides the final boss is at least manageable regardless of how you level your character. Knowing which ones to focus on is tuff when there are roughly 60 abilities that you can develop. You really don't know what to choose until you get served at the end. It's a principle that pissed me off. |

How about you post your skill build so we won't have trouble with the final boss like you did? |

I got the game and its not that fun, like half the time you will be running around to try and find where to go for quests because the map doesn't tell you. |
