New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Where dreams come to come true.
This game plays like a greatest hits compilation taken from the three main 2D Mario games (Bros., Bros. 3, World). I don't know if that's good or inherently lazy, but I enjoy it more than New Super Mario Bros., which I recently played and nah...still a very underachieving game. This one doesn't do more than it advertises, the Wii gimmicks are what they are, and...well, it's 2D Mario. By the way, multiplayer sucks on this game. Thankfully, very little of that will be taking place. What frustrates me most about it is when you know you're at that point in the level where you have the Mario green light and you can just take off run through it without any issues, and then the person playing doesn't see that green light. Then you get a huff and a puff and a wide screen. Then they come back, jump on your head, and you fall into a pit. Rock. On.

But yeah, so far, so Mario. Which is both good and bad.

It feels exactly like NSMB to me. Like, same exact game amount. Except with the Koopalings ( :yay: ) and multiplayer ( ). Sarah and I've played through the first world and multiplayer definitely makes the game MUCH harder.

I still have not yet picked this game up, but I intend to very soon. I went looking for it right after Christmas, to buy it with a giftcard, but the store didn't have anymore copies left.

Wow. I just read the GI review on this game today. Just more proof that these clowns inflate reviews. What you guys are saying about MP is about what I expected when I first saw the game announcement. They hyped it like it was sugarbutter.

The multiplayer is fun though, at least I enjoyed it when I was playing with my cousins.
but ya, it's a good game, but a very average game at mario's standard.

A- doesn't seem that ridiculous to me, honestly. A 9.5 for freaking God of War collection, though, now that's inflation. :?

Sorry. I didn't mean the score. I meant what they wrote about the Multiplayer in the text. if I remember what I read, they were saying it was outstanding. But yall are pointing out what I figured would be issues with it.

The score on the other hand seemed fair. I mean, it is a Mario game so chances are it's going to be good quality in most areas.

and  at the GoW collection. I tried playing a GoW game and just could not get into it at all. What did I miss that everyone else seems to love so much? :?

Oh, don't misinterpret my comments. I love the multiplayer. It's just that the other person will be in your way. And die a lot. And kill you. But it'll be a blast.

 I disaggreee. I have no fun getting taken out by friendly fire. It's unbelievably hard for me to not flip out on someone for this multiplayer. I try and let it flow and have fun, but there are times when you have to just GOOO and no one I've played with gets that.

It's really bad with two people, but it's easier to let it flow with three or four and just accept the absurdity. But I'm too competitive in Mario games to eff around with that kind of nonsense if it's just two players. I cannnnottt do it.

I think with a game like this the MP experience is going to depend on the players skills and that will determine whether you have a good or bad experience. If you are playing with someone who is way above or far below your skill level you will have a less than pleasant experience. If you can hook up with someone who is near the same skill level as you though you will have a better experience. Just like any other co op game.

Not true. I mastered Super Mario World. Sarah's terrified of Bowser.

Oh man, this game is so epically fanboy that if it existed when I was in my teens, I'm pretty sure I would call it the greatest game ever for all the Mario World pandering it does. It's GREAT. Like that one castle in world three with the moving blocks and even switch palaces!? And the jumping fish level?? And the maze castle!!!?? Man, this game is like a night of drinking, it just gets better as it goes on, but not for reasons that it should.

At any rate, I'm about halfway through world four. I wish I weren't so awesome at this game to have 78 lives, but alas. Issues I have: too easy to get power-ups. I haven't gone into a level as Mario in about two worlds. It's Super Mario or better. It's also not fun at all to rescue Toads. I'm done rescuing them. I thought it might be fun, but having to carry them through a level you've already beaten is a bit...yawn.

Penguin suit power-up is solid. Probably the best in the game for its adapting abilities. Yeah, I'll have it beat sometime this weekend (if I'm not sucked up into football), but you know...I think it'll end up being worth it.

Oh. My. God. Mechakoopas.

Also, my Mario lost his cap. I guess it's an easter egg for getting 99 lives. Weird.

Yeah, it's official: I can't stand this game. It's everything 2-D Mario-y that I hated about 3 and World. I can't even sit through World 2, it's such an annoying game to play. Not only that, but the very little interest I had in SMG 2 (which wasn't much to begin with since the newness of discovery in SMG was what made it for me) is officially dead at this point. That's not to say it's a bad game or whatever. Just that I hate 2-D Mario games.
