No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

Aight. So I'm cool with achievements/trophies. Plus, I'm obsessive compulsive about finishing tasks, so achievements suit my completionist playing style.... However. I don't quite understand the logic behind some of the choices devs make with their achievements. I think many of them have WAY more confidence in the replayability of their games than they should. For example. On Mortal Kombat 3, you have to win 100 Ranked Online matches? Now, they know good and well people only bought that game for nostalgia purposes to play leisurely. The only people who will even PLAY 100 online matches are most likely some hardcore MK geek reliving his arcade days. So truthfully, there is no real plausible way to even get the achievement without cheating. Or take Duke Nukem 3D's "get 500 online kills in ranked matches" award. 500? Word? I love Duke Nukem more than most, but I don't think I'd play online enough for no 500 kills, yo. These devs seem a little be arrogant when it comes to how fun THEY think their games are. I'm all about completing games, but even I have limits. This is just two of many games I know I'll probably never complete because the achievement is so ridiculous. And that's a little disappointing. As much as I hate on Call of Duty. At least they have the decency to keep all of their achievements in the campaigns. I have much love for that. |

I dunno, I think there should be some really hardcore stuff in there. That way, getting a 100% really means something. My biggest complaint is finishing a game with like 25% trophies. Yeah, you get a trophy for it, but I feel like there should be something special next to the game name that shows you beat it. |

I'm all for the hardcore stuff. But putting in trophies like 500 kills in a game that only 4 people ever play is just ridiculous to me. You basically have to luck out and find people to play with if you don't have friends that own the game. That's often hard to do. Especially in a game like MK. I don't mind the challenge, but at least give me the opportunity to take the challenge. Call of Duty 2's "Beat the game on Veteran" achievements for example. That is hard as crap. But it's at least doable if you keep at it. 8) |

Yeah. It's all about managing replay expectations. I mean, did these clowns really believe 1000s of people were gonna play Duke Nukem 3D online for years when games like Modern Warfare, Halo and Battlefield rule the day? That's kinda the heart of what I'm getting at. I just want these bammas to think about the achievements more practically. if you want to make it hard, I'm all for it. But forcing me to rely on other people playing the game is crazy when it's not a popular game in any sense of the word. I kinda wish all achievements were offline. Call of Duty got this right. They make their achievements challenging, but don't force you to play online in ranked matches just to boost their online stats so their marketing teams can boast about how awesome their games are as it relates to replay value. |

Yeah, there are some LittleBigPlanet trophies I'll never get simply because my game goes wonky as all get out when I play online (and it's not like I have a bad internet connection). |

For most games with multiplayer achievements, you have to get the game on launch and play just the multiplayer right away. Since I know Duke 3D very well, I was able to get all the achievements within four days of the game's release. |

Getting 500 kills online really isn't that much of a chore, especially if its a game you enjoy playing online. I've got way more than that in MW2. And the CoD campaign trophies for the CoD games piss me off. I can't beat that isht on Veteran. :x |

Its not hard with popular games. It took me about five hours to get 500 kills in MW. Its much harder when the servers are a ghost town. |

I agree that all achievements should be offline. I don't care if the trophy/achievement is next to impossible because of how hard it is to do as long as it's offline. Nothing in the achievement/trophy world is more disappointing then when you buy that new game you want to play 100% and 50% of them are online. You would have to have friends to boost them with (which I don't), the luck of the Irish, or play the online for hours on end.

What do you guys think of add-on trophies? Personally, I think it's a nuisance that it's in the count with your main game stuff. |

The don't count towards your platinum trophy on the PS3. You can still get 100% completion even if you have 50 add-on trophies left to obtain. |
