So it sounds like LB were serious when they said LeftBack would be their last album. :(

Hard to call for sure. On the one hand it's disappointing, but on the other it's not surprising. All 3 original artists had already begun rebranding themselves before and definitely after the Minstrel Show fiasco.

Phonte had Foreign Exchange - which was still going well for him and that group as of last year - and Pooh had already launched out solo after Minstrel Show. Pooh was also vocal about the FE flavor not really being his MO.

Part of me wouldn't be surprised if this is only temporary. Part of me feels like it's cool because I'm gonna assume that they tie up all the loose ends here. This group has been my favorite current hip hop group. (save for my all time favorites - The Roots of course - who are also my all time favorite band)

And they've been my favorite because of what they've communicated via the music. I could connect with their music because I could first connect with what they were saying. I'm weird like that. As an emcee/singer/musician myself, If I don't respect WHAT you say as an emcee, I'll never be a fan of yours. No matter how dope beats are or how well you ride the beat vocally. I'll respect skills and give credit for them. But skills will always come secondary to me when pit against content in a genre where lyricism is so out in front.

That's why, I'd be cool if this is a wrap. If Phonte and Pooh have said everything they need to say as Little Brother by the end of this last album... What more is there? I'm a big advocate of saying nothing if you have nothing to say in music. Probably the reason why so much hip hop frustrated me for years before I finally just had to accept it for what it was.

Plus, on the business side, why continue to fight against a brick wall. Their style was never going to be widely accepted because they often refused to follow the standards of being such. Why not focus on what can potentially bring more success and of course money for your family? FE drops 2 albums and gets a grammy nom.... LB drops 4 albums and maintains their already small fanbase compared to the grand scheme. Plus, FE is much more versatile with the use of a live band. When I saw them perform live (at the same club where I saw LB) the audience was much more diverse.

But who knows. I know I'll still get to hear them do their thing regardless, so I'm cool with it if it is really the end of LB.

Speaking of Phonte, did you catch that parody album he did? I can't remember the collaborator's name or the name of the album. But dang. I don't know HOW he got away with some of the stuff he did on that joint.

Inspectah Deck is without a doubt the most underrated member of the Wu. I may have to pick this up. At least it'll give more bang for my buck than that Meth/Ghost/Rae album coming out that's supposed to be like 28 minutes. GTFO.

You really gotta respect the sheer retardedness of a band with only 2 albums releasing a Greatest Hits with 19 tracks. Way to go Something Corporate.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention you only need Leaving Through the Window and be done with it. Maybe just re-release it with "Konstantine" if you have to...

Yeah, re-release a 10th anniversary LTTW with Audioboxer as a 2nd disc and you're gold. Though I am one of the few people who really enjoyed North.

Yeah, you would like North. I did like "21 and Invincible" though.

I guess they gotta peddle this since they're trying a reunion. Sometimes I just wish bands would leave the past in the past. I don't need new Something Corporate in the 2010's anymore than I need new Pavement or blink-182. I just...don't.

While I understand Something Corporate being done (it's been too long at this point, that era has moved on), he's got to get rid of Jack's Mannequin. That band is so faceless and is really "Andrew McMahon and random people play some songs." It doesn't do anything for me.

Also, 21 and Invincible is one of the worst songs on there.

Oh, man, you couldn't sell me on a way the only catchy song and the only good hook on the whole album equates one of the worst songs on that piece. Certainly can't sell me that the album itself offered anything substantial, but I haven't listened to it in whole in about six years, so I don't even know what it offers anymore.

And no Jack's Mannequin bashing! Even if The Glass Passenger had a ton of really jankass songs, I won't stand for it!

I could care less about Something Corporate, but I love me some "Konstantine." :finger:
