Did you ever pick up Here by Nicolay? That's where I first heard him. ;)

I didn't get any of Nicolay's solo stuff. Wasn't THAT interested in him, haha.

This Cee Lo Green CD is pretty sweet. I initially had 0 plans to buy it due to a throwaway joke of a lead single (Cee Lo is making a killing off of stupid ass white people), but I decided to give it a shot. It's got some pretty killer tracks on there. It doesn't have as much mellow material as I'd like, but I'm cool with it overall.

I couldn't care less what Nicolay's best cd is. It's not 2007 anymore.

Checked out a couple of other 2010 releases:

Male Bonding and Chromeo. Male Bonding would be an instant classic of pure singalong fun if they didn't record the album in a drainage pipe, and Chromeo would be excellent 80's pop if the last six songs on the album weren't there. Flaws. Shame.

Watching you two talk is like watching these two Jewish kats at my old barbershop argue. Both of yall sound like grumpy ass old dudes.

Amazon had it for $3.99, so I snatched that mess right up.

Anyway, I'm absolutely loving it. Maybe it's just a honeymoon phase, but I think this could easily be one of my top albums for the year. It's just so much fun, and I'm in love with Cee Lo's voice. And stupid ass white person or not, I still love "Fuck You."

There's a strong underlying song to it, but it's still so obviously geared to play up that silly jokester Cee Lo nonsense we've been getting with Gnarls Barkley. But yeah, it's a good CD, even if the second half isn't nearly as strong (barring the final two songs) and the intro and outro are out of place throwaways. Bright Lights Bigger City and Wildflower, though? Two of the best songs of the year.

Definitely with you on "Bright Lights Bigger City." That song had me hooked right from the get-go.

Nearly missed out on the School Food Punishment LP. These guys are a Japanese synth pop band that released a couple decent EPs and then signed to a major label, which was followed by increasingly decreasing (in quality) singles that absolutely turned me off on their full length, but I got it on good measure it wasn't a complete mess, so I decided to go for it. What a payoff. Quality work and one of the year's brighter albums. Superb synth pop that actually finds home for these dreadful stand alone singles, which I think may have been remixed for the albums, couldn't say.

One big drawback on this album is the vocalist. She's quite talented and sounds very good, but her vocal delivery doesn't have any variety. The only way you can tell there's anything different about her vocal delivery is that they threw on an autotune effect that cuts in and out on one song. :D

Kush has a music video now. Detox is coming?

Also: How embarassing is this shit to watch? Dre is like 1,000 years old. :whatever:

The Beady Eye song is all right. Beady Eye being, for those who don't know, Oasis minus Noel Gallagher. The problem is that the rest of the band couldn't write songs near to Noel's level. They contributed to the latter day CDs, but their songs were always the "It's okay, I guess" ones. So yeah, a solid song, but nothing exciting. If it weren't from the guys from Oasis, I very much wouldn't care.

I picked up that Mumford and Sons disc. The Pitchfork review pissed me off just enough to give it a shot. God, I hate that site.

I can agree. What did they say about it?

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13906-sigh-no-more/

I went into it with a bad taste in my mouth because it's a 2.1. The singles alone are better than 2.1, whatever else is on the album aside. Then, I read:

"Worse is "Little Lion Man", which is already a hit in Britain but sounds overly self-absorbed in its insistent mea culpas, as if admitting wrongdoing is a noble gesture: "I really fucked it up this time, didn't I, my dear?""

Which reminded me of:

"With "Runaway", he rousingly highlights his own douchebaggery, turning it into a rallying cry for all humanity. Like many of his greatest songs, it's funny, sad, and perversely relatable. "

That was what kind of annoyed me. I didn't get that shit at all from Lion Man, but it's so overwhelmingly present on Runaway that I can't stomach the track. I mean, we're not talking album of the year here with this Mumford and Sons disc. But it's certainly a solid effort, if nothing particularly fantastic.

But beyond all of that, there's just the how of Pitchfork. They write like a bunch of failed English majors more interested in their interpretation than the actual music. They're not reviewing music; they're writing essays inspired by CDs.
