Where dreams come to come true.

I was largely indifferent to "Monster" at first, now it's one of my favorite songs. I think that and "So Appalled" make this one great. It's a decimating combo. I'm still certain this album is something worthwhile. I haven't listened to it in a few hours and I'm having withdraws. That should stand for something. |

Yup, exact opposite here. I've been forcing myself to listen. I can't take it anymore, though, I'm going back to Invented and Flamingo. 8) |

It just flat out amazes me sometimes how we see things on the opposite end of the spectrum. You find Invented to be superb and it's been eight years since I've been so bored by an album. |

Invented doesn't do anything new or exciting, but it's such a solid CD that it's a joy to listen to. Same reason I like that Brandon Flowers disc so much. ;) |

Oh, I can't agree to that on that basis, haha. I mean, Flowers works because the hooks work. It's overindulgent and campy to the point of fault, but it manages to work in spite of itself because it's such a grandiose album that the songs feature a strength that circles parody and comes back around to listenable. The worst moment on the album is when the chorus hits for the first time in "Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts," because that's the closest the album comes to blowing its cover from campy to just plain bad, but somehow tiptoes that line with ease to make it delightful. I'll give Brandon Flowers tons of credit for releasing a stupid, overblown, self indulgent rock(?) album in 2010 and making it work. That's hard to do. But Jimmy Eat World just went into the studio, recorded a bunch of atmospheric dad rock songs because it was time to release a new cd and went home. I just can't hear the solid part of that album, since the only thing "solid" about the album is that it's not bad, it's just dull. Unbelievably dull. |

Yeah, opposite ends even when we like the same stuff. I like Flamingo for the backbone he gives the songs. The hooks are the worst part about the album (with the exception of the exceptional hooks on tracks 2 and 3), in my opinion. I like the buildup more than the payoff for the most part. Fantasy is a fever dream. It's rare, it's a new way of experiencing things, it's twisted and it's muddled. But it's also ridiculously unpleasant to be trapped in. Invented is a nice day. Nothing exciting happens, but you just feel good about it. |

Picked up new Big Boi and Arcade Fire for $1.99 today. God, I love Amazon MP3. |

That Big Boi disc is FIRE. If you don't get amped from Daddy Fat Sax, you should just quit listening to music. ;) |

That's a strange way of saying that... And I didn't know, "Obvious" was being used as a critique for music. Interesting. Oh and thanks for the heads up. :headbang: |

I find it strange you've never heard the word campy before. When I think campy, first thing that comes to mind is Adam West Batman. |

So I got that new Kid Cudi. I'm kind of digging it, strangely enough. It's not as immediate or gripping as the last album. It's more focused on mood. I've only listened once, but I enjoyed it. |

I'm of the mind that Nicki minaj kills it it in "Monster" and that it's probably the best song of 2010, but I probably need to be not half drunk to make that proclamation. Leave is to kanye to make bon iver listenable. |

Nikki Minaj is horrible in Monster. God knows what copy of this CD you got that I didn't. :? |
