Yeah, I had to download his new mixtape cause I was all, "Wait...I was told I was getting some J-Cole in October." Nope. I'll substitute. I don't really care for mixtapes. I don't know how people can just eat them up. They're inconsistent and just...bleh mostly. But "Before I'm Gone" gives me faith...for mixtapes and Cole World. |

Oh yeah, Gregory and the Hawk did come out. I don't know what's up with albums sabotaging themselves and ruining absolutely all of the momentum they had going by janking it up with a godawful song that makes the rest of the album a complete suck pile. Shugo Tokumaru did it and now Gregory did it. Coming off of the gorgeous "A Century is All We Need" is "Leaves," a painful song that leads the album down a dark path of suck. By the way, this album put me over 10,000 songs on my iPod. I could probably stand to do some cleaning up. |

Hot damn. Amazon has new Kanye and MCR for $3.99. For that price, nate might even give into Kanyeezy. |

Yeah, the race to the top reviews aside, I planned on picking it up regardless. I just don't expect it to be good. I still don't as most of these reviews don't even touch the album itself as much as the experience of Kanye. More importantly: Which cover will everyone choose? Edited by nate, Nov 22 2010, 07:17 AM.

The cover that came with the MP3 version I bought was a censored version of the "naughty" cover. |

Yeah, me too. But there are, what, 4 different covers to pick from? Anyway, this CD is Late Registration. Not in sound, but intent. It's something radically different from what's out there. It's a new level. It's manic insanity mixed with unbridled creativity. The problem is, it takes time to unravel so there's a lot of early excitement that may not pan out. Late Registration didn't hold up, though, so let's see what happens here when it's all taken apart and understood. Honestly, right now, I don't know what to make of the thing. |

For those who find $3.99 too steep, how about $.99? GET3MP3S- $3 of Amazon MP3 credit. Merry Thanksgiving. :thumb2: |

Ne-Yo *might* be worth that. ....nah. Anyway, good call on Late Registration. Intent wise, this is that, only with a more grandiose and intentional defining moment. As with LR, it'll be key to see if this one holds up, because LR was amazing when it dropped, but it's definitely lagging behind five years later. This could be different, but we'll see. What I think has this on its side is a stronger set of songs. Even at its peak, LR worked as an album, but didn't own up in the song category, which I guess thinking on it could hurt The Suburbs long term, but up through "So Appalled," I don't see a weak link at all. "Hell of a Life" is the absolute weak link, and it's stronger than "Addiction" or "Drive Slow." I think "Devil in a Red Dress" is a little simple compared to the rest of the album to really belong. Those are the only two slip ups I can think, and they're still worthwhile ultimately. I think this album also benefits from little additions and quirks. Kanye's spot on, guest spots are exceptional. I was sure for a second Niki Minaj was the victim of pure hater mentality until I read this, then it hit me that Kanye was able to catch lightning in a bottle with Minaj and led to pull the best out of his guest spots on this one. In addition, the autotuned vocals at the end of "Runaway" were beautiful. Listening to it all day. I was drained emotionally listening to "Blame Game." That song absolutely wrecks me. I think it's worth it. Definitely the album of the year. By a gigantic stretch. I've no doubt it holds up through the year, but I'm curious now whether it holds up long term. It's fitting for now, however, so Kanye wins. Loving it. |

Whether or not this CD is good or just a clever trick still remains to be seen, but I will say after 2 listens I don't dig it. At all. It's kind of a chore to get through. It's exhausting. I adore the beat to Dark Fantasy and Power kicks ass, but, overall, this CD just kind of grates at me. I will say, though, going back after this I'm loving 808s again. There are still some annoying damned songs, but the most of it is a dream. Edited by nate, Nov 22 2010, 07:17 PM.

Yup, still don't like this CD. Power sucks, too. Dark Fantasy is great on the verses, Blame Game is great throughout and I kinda enjoy Lost in the World. Monster + So Appalled kills the CD for me every time I hit it and we go from ambivalent to wanting to turn it off. |
