Taylor Swift- Would be much better if this were all stuff for other people. She's her own weakest link. The wide eyed naive young girl with the heartbreak schtick is old. The attempts at maturity are even worse. Plus, her voice can be a bit grating after 60 minutes. Some of the songwriting, on the other hand, is quite good. Some of these songs I could see praising to no end if they were given to someone else. Still, a solid album where the second half is far better than the first. John Legend and the Roots- Only given it one listen and it's a mixed bag. Some of it's FANTASTIC. Other parts are hurt by bizarre song choices. John Legend has a hard time adapting his voice at times because of this. He's a great singer, but some of these were poor choices for him to take on. That said, there is not as big a talent gap as the reviewers like to pretend. God, the Roots have become such critical darlings that can do no wrong. It's getting really tired. Name checking ?uestlove and overpraising the group has become such a legitimacy play in reviews. |

Just bought the Pinkerton deluxe edition, and the new one that apparently came out today as well, Death to False Metal. Yet another album that I was in the dark about. It has a cover of "Unbreak my Heart," which I'm super excited about. |

Death to False Metal is more or less a b-sides collection. A rerecording of a bunch of castoffs. Not expecting much from that set, but Pinkerton deluxe is divine. |

Death to False Metal is poorly titled. Anyway, this thing is uneven, but I guess that's not a surprise given the spread of time frame. The Make Believe cuts are the only real notables, and "Autopilot" is aight. It should've made the red album, cause it's not total suck. That cover of "Unbreak My Heart" is terrible though. As for the Pinkerton deluxe, I'd lament the wasting of about six thousand live versions of "The Good Life," "El Scorcho," and "Pink Triangle," even if some of them are rare or whatever, whatever. The studio cuts are gems. Aside from the single b-sides, the Weezer takes of "You Won't Get With Me Tonight" and "Long Time Sunshine" are great and "Tragic Girl" is one heck of a song. But man, Rivers Cuomo. What a guy. He shies away from this release for 10 years, now he's profiting off it like a motherbitch. This re-release, a book The Pinkerton Diaries, and Alone III: The Pinkerton Years. Wonder what it means for the band going forward. :listens to "Autopilot": Oh. Right. "Unbreak My Heart" still blows, so we're clear. |

On second thought, "Autopilot" isn't good. BUT. I love the autotune part. The song culminates around that entire 30 seconds. Fierce vocal melody with dreamy electropop floating in the background. Edited by goodlucksaturday, Nov 2 2010, 09:22 PM.

Is there anything else coming out this year but some rap CDs I won't be buying (TI, Kanye, Lupe)? I think Flamingo may be my AotY. Craziness. |

Yo, this new TI song's a trip. The guy's playing the victim card the whole time through because people hate him for being a crook (and brings Chris Brown for the trip). My favorite part is when he questions whether the sinner or the person judging him is worse. You're kidding... right? |

I've got about 13 horses in this race and I don't trust a single one. I'm not even sure I want to rank anything this year. They're all the exact same album as far as I'm concerned. |

I finally got the new Linkin Park cd "A Thousand Suns" and it's actually pretty good. It's much better then "Minutes to Midnight." I don't get why people are complaining that it's different, it sounds like typical Linkin Park album to me. That's not really a bad thing, the industrial rock-rap thing is something they do pretty well. The cd has WAY too many intermission tracks, though. Of the 15 tracks, only 9 of them are actually songs. The final track, "The Messenger," is also bad. Nothing like ending a cd with a shitty acoustic track. :brickwall: |

nate can hate, but this new Kanye disc is going to be a beast. "Dark Fantasy" is one hell of a track. 8) |

I would not be sad if that guy never opened his mouth again. He's even managed to ruin his other music for me with how much I hate him and his bananagans at this point. Keep him producing because, yes, he is damned talented, but take the mic away. His little "self-awareness" routine isn't cute, it's just making excuses at this point. To quote the president, "Kanye West is an asshole." :salut: |

Say what you will. I'm pretty convinced this is going to be the most ambitious hip-hop album ever created. I'm not going to hold you accountable for your unwillingness to separate the music from the man, especially since much of what I'm gathering on this is that the music, for all intents and purposes, is the man, but it's not my place to intertwine morality and music. I'm a judge of music. I'll judge Kanye's music as music and judge Kanye as Kanye. But I know you're stubborn about your music once you make up your mind. It would be hard to sway you, who has shared his love for production, to come around on the advanced production of Abbey Road and its importance and genius as one of the three best albums in my own tastes and of all time. Again, I'm not going to hold it against you in any way, but I'm fairly sure Beautiful Dark Fantasy is going to be an accomplishment. Is all I'm saying. |

Umm... Abbey Road is the one Beatles CD I actually really like. And this from the guy who said 808s and Heartbreak was going to be a trainwreck. :D |
