Where dreams come to come true.
I'm kind of unsure how I feel about the new Envy. On one hand, it's absolutely beautiful. Every bit as epic you'd expect, but it seems a little unsettling. It sounds like Explosions in the Sky collaborating with Motoi Sakuraba more than it sounds like Envy. Which isn't a problem by itself, but some of these melodies seem a little hokey and out of place on the album. As elaborate and overblown as it is, the whole thing sounds simple. I like it for the sheer beauty, but I'm unsure if I actually like it beyond that.

You imported a CD to get it 2 weeks earlier? How much did that end up costing you?

Yeah, like I'm that noble.

As I mentioned a while back, I won't even be able to get the cd on the 12th, so I figured no harm no foul in hearing it ahead of time, since I have no clue how long it will be before I can get it through work.

Big day tomorrow, I think. Deceptively so.

Jimmy Eat World will be fairly cheap, so I'm thinking I might just give it a go, but I'm still...unsure. The other releases I'm thinking on are pushing them further away from consideration.

Kinda want to get this Deerhunter album, even though I very much dislike the cover. I like what I'm hearing though. Music trumps cover, I think. It did for Antony, until I realized the Antony record was just not very good. Then I sold it.

And then I saw we were getting a record from Aloe Blacc. Hadn't heard of him, but speaking of album covers, his Good Things cover intrigued me. It's pretty soulful from the clips I'm listening to, and despite a cover of "Femme Fatale" that's not sitting right me with me even though it's pretty tasteful, I'm liking the clips a lot.

So I'm kind of looking at three albums, and the John Legend & The Roots album is sounding pretty solid to me as well. Yikes.

And...for what it's worth, Sufjan Stevens is back. This could mean about 400 different things to anyone, but his upcoming album The Age of Adz is getting some interesting hype. I realize he's done some stuff, but I don't think he's actually put together anything that could be considered a real album since Illinois.

Sufjan is streaming too, now. Certainly a very different style than Illinois or Michigan, but not something that's altogether new for him, either:

I refuse to pay $10 for a digital album. I've been looking forward to that Roots/ John Legend for a longass time, but until it's cheaper, it's not happening. :(

I'm really hoping Jimmy Eat World is on sale tomorrow for $4 or so. I could live with $8, though.

I may be in love with Invented. It's not the best CD I've ever heard in a critical sense. It's just so good, though. It takes that little core of happiness and warmth in your gut and causes it to swell until it fills you.

Does anyone have that Mumford and Sons disc? Reviews on it are crazy mixed. NPR loved it, Pitchfork hated it, AMG might be in the middle according to the stars, but the review doesn't really say a damned thing. I've liked the singles I've heard, but was wondering if any of y'all had it. I really enjoyed how a number of reviews claimed it was derivative music and then had to list 10 bands it was a "carbon copy" of. Can you really make that claim when you have to use that many bands to support it? But the best part was that none of them had the same 10 bands.

Speaking of AMG's reviews- is it just me or have they taken a severe nosedive in the past 2 years or so? They used to be my number 1 review source, but now I only check them on occasion and more out of curiousity than anything since the review I find is almost always rubbish.

New MCR at the end of November. Here's the first single:

I love it. It's infectious, and it's a fun departure from the normal MCR gothfest while still maintaining their sound. Looking forward to the new album.

I HATE that song! It's as obnoxious as the title would lead you to believe. :cat:

I'm going to agree with nate. Sorry, waddle. :( This is tragic. :ack:

When they'd last do something, like four years ago? This is the best they've got?

Still working on this Deerhunter album. Can't get a firm grasp on it. All I know is that there's only one song in the first four that's worthwhile, but the whole second half is stellar. Closing track is phenomenal.

From what I've read, they were working on a more "traditional" MCR album, but when they were just about finished Gerard said "Eff this!" and decided to make a pop album. So yeah, this is all they've got.
