Boost: I had the exact same thing happen to me with Sleigh Bells, Rill Rill making me like 'em and all.

I'm really loving Gonjasufi's A Sufi a Killer, right now. Might be my front-runner for album of the year. :finger:

I feel kind of cheesy riding too hard on this Jonsi disc, as I've never cared or listened to a lot of Sigur Ros, but thus thing is a beaut. Lush strings and arrangements, a nice multi layers production, just a great album. Gonna nd to get a couple more listens to know how I feel, but it's made a good first impression.

Vocals are too far forward on this Tallest Man disc. I keep trying to turn it up to hear the instrumentation only to have an ear drum pierced by a nasally squawk. :(

Damn Linkin Park, you guys really don't know what to do with yourselves after rap/rock died, do you? This new song's just bad. And not even due to my dislike of Chester Bennington (who for better or worse seems to be the focal point of the band at this point), but just because it's a really lousy tune.

@Boost and Belf: Cool! I caught some crap from people for liking this music so much, but it is nice to see some others come around. Rill Rill is the one song that most people would enjoy. It is a bait and switch though. Everybody is like "Ooh! This song has a chunky melody and it's pretty good" at first, then every other song on the album makes their ears bleed. :lol2:

I picked up the new MIA album this week and I am enjoying it more with every listen. Not every song is golden, but there is a lot of quality in the message of many of these songs. If there was a theme for this album, I think it would be how technology is ruining people, privacy and the world.

Many people will jump on the song "XXXO", but they wont understand that everything about the song is a giant slap in their face for listening to the shit that they currently enjoy. Not that the song is terrible either, it is quite excellent in the way that it is shoulders above the similar music being parodied by this track. I like to think of it as a message to all of the people who loved "Paper Planes", yet are all "WTF?" when they listen to the rest of her music. Go figure that this one song will end up selling a bunch of her record to the same idiots she's making fun of.

That one song out of the way, the rest of the album is quite good. The intro track immediately sets the tone with "The Message" of the album, with the lyrics:

Connected to the Google
Connected to the government

Headbone connects to the neckbone
Neckbone connects to the armbone
Armbone connects to the handbone
Handbone connects to the internet
Connected to the Google
Connected to the government

Connected to the Google
Connected to the government

Headbone connects to the headphones
Headphones connect to the iPhone
iPhone connected to the internet
Connected to the Google
Connected to the government

Connected to the Google
Connected to the government

I still have mixed feelings on this one. I really wish they would have stuck with the sound they adopted for M2M for at least one more album instead of rushing into a new sound all over again. I blame Rick Rubin. :x

In other news, bought Neon Trees' Habits yesterday. I loved the single "Animal" enough that I figured I'd give them a shot. We'll see how it goes.

Not terribly sure how I feel about these guys. CD was fine if I remember correctly, but I wasn't super impressed.

But there is a certain charm in mainstream (arena rock) indie rock you just cannot find anywhere else. "Animal" is super catchy.

So the new Jimmy Eat World single... is kind of like the best damned song to come out this year. This song kicks serious ass. :yay:

Ew.

I'll have to listen to it more, but I have no clue who this band is I'm listening to. :whatever:

I like a Nelly song. That scares me a little bit. That's only happened once before and, well, when Tim McGraw rolls through to duet, that's definitely a once in a lifetime fluke as is.

John Legend feat. Common and Melanie Fiona with the Roots as his backing band. Great lead off single. THIS is that sound I've been missing. I've made my peace with HIGO, but Wake Up! very well could be the Roots album I wanted. Because what I want isn't so much the Roots as that Soulquarian/Neo-Soul sound that's been missing from my life recently. Don't let me down John Legend.

Also, Goo Goo Dolls sound exactly the same as they have for over a decade now. Solid tune, even if the chorus suffers from the awkwardness that all their latter career choruses have.

Picked up MGMT. It's interesting. It's not at all what I expected. From what I heard of their first album and the pre-release hype of this (an album that is a whole, not 10-12 songs and with no defineable singles), I was expecting a sort of electro-pop Pink Floyd type release. Instead, it plays more like a 40 minute stream of conscious pop song. It doesn't have the spaciness, thump, or rambling I expected. It's surpisingly tight and upbeat for a CD that was built around the premise it was. At times, I almost want to describe it as "sprightly." I kind of like that it threw me for a loop, even if I know that was the plan.
