Am I the only one underwhelmed? It's poppier and more immediate than Neon Bible, but absolutely nothing grabs me, whereas every song on Funeral is a, "This is my favourite song" moment. Maybe it just needs more time to germinate. |

There aren't any really great songs. That's extremely true. I think it flows better than Funeral. That is, it doesn't dip like Funeral did. Funeral is one of my all time favorites, but it gets a pass because I don't think it's a perfect album. It's probably the most flawed favorite I have. I dunno. I can see it from both sides, but I'm enjoying it a ton. |

Regine Chassagne is too fantastic of a singer for her to get as few songs as she gets. I mean, she's got, what, 1 of 16 on this one? Anyway- I'm enjoying this album. I just wish something would stick out for me in a truly stellar sense. When I'm actively listening to the songs they have moments that sweep me up, but once we're on to the next or its all over, I can't seem to recall them. It's continuing to grow on me, though, so I'm sure it'll be one I'm processing for the next couple of weeks, at least. I will say that I enjoy it more than Neon Bible, though. In other news, that New Pornographers disc is really blossoming with me. Neko Case is still a little jarring to hear in this context, but it's got a lot of really solid moments. Some of the songs are really quite beautiful. |

Bout fed up with the Japanese music industry and how they do things. Sakanaction released a single in January, followed by a full length in March. Which is fine or something. Then it becomes August, and they release a new single that isn't even on the album. I mean, do what? Why is Japan's music industry so stupid? Anyway, the single "Identity" is meh, but the b-side "Holy Dance" is exceptional. Funny how that works. |

Is that any worse than America's? Release a single, months pass, release another, months pass, release a third, months pass, release an "official single," about a year later a CD comes out with none but the last of those on it. |

I don't come across that too often, but I think that happens more in hip-hop than anything. Most of the albums I'm familiar with follow a single-album-singles out the ass formula or an album-single, in a rare case, single-single-album, or in Eminem's case single-single-single-single-single-single-single-single-single-single-single-album. Hardly ever seem to see your scenario, but I'm not saying it happens. |

That's how pretty much every hip hop release ever operates. And its not only limited to one year, sometimes. It's incredibly frustrating.

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

Japan's structure with music is different from ours. Their margins to recoup and get a decent ROI are much smaller because royalties are paid to a lot more people in the chain of production. My boy I was working with to do production for Unicorn Table used to always joke saying "even the JANITOR at Sony Records in Japan get's royalties on albums released." Not sure if that directly affects what you are talking about, but it seems like it would. Anyway... Oddisee "Traveling Man" is INSANE! Wow. Really well done so far. |

Downloaded Street Sweeper Social Club's The Ghetto Blaster EP from Amazon. Haven't given it a full listen, but the "Paper Planes" cover is dope. I'm also very intrigued by this "Mama Said Knock You Out" cover... Also, apparently Korn released a new album mid-July. I'll have to give that a listen. |

Weezer have a new single. Because yeah, we needed one. They also have a new album called Hurley. Because yeah, we needed one. The song's called "Memories," and it doesn't suck. As I read, the best way I've heard it described: "At this stage of the game you're expecting the absolute worst, and 'Memories' isn't the absolute worst. In fact, it's not too bad at all." A wonderful power pop hook that harkens more to the synth driven b-sides from Pinkerton than anything they released in the oughts. The lyrics are really crappy, but oh well. Basically it's a rocker about what life must've been like when Weezer were actually taken seriously. I don't know what this means regarding the album, probably not much, especially since they just slapped Hurley from Lost on the cover and went home. Comes out September 14th. On Epitaph. I will be downloading it illegally, because I can't possibly see a reason to spend money on Weezer ever again, even though "Memories" is a pretty solid tune musically, but with such killer tracks like "Where's My Sex?" and "Smart Girls," I'm thinking we're in for a ride. |

Remember when Weezer was a legitimate band and not kind of a joke? And we were convinced that Rivers Cuomo was a pop genius? MEMORIES! |

I still think Pinkerton is kinda bad, although maybe it's just the fact that lyrics REALLY rub me the wrong way. Still...Blue Album was pretty great! ;)
