I particularly enjoyed this line: "On their fantastic third album, The Suburbs, they aim higher than ever, with Roman numerals and parentheses in the song titles." Cause the first album wasn't filled to the brim with that? |

Sounds like J. Cole's album is dated for October 26th. Which means we'll probably get it sometime next summer, if not next winter. |

Hmm...dig this song. Will not lie. Has that apocalyptic old man legacy sound that seems to go over well when old men do apocalyptic old man legacy covers. |

Isn't it an album of gospel covers? |

I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around this New Pornographers disc. It's the first album I've bought by them, since it was only $6 on Amazon. I wasn't originally a fan. It wasn't bad or anything, just not a lot did much for me. Now, I couldn't tell you what I think. I don't know if I like, love, hate, whatever. It's bizarre. Most albums either grow or get old, this one became intangible. |

The Suburbs is streaming on NPR and I'm giving it a listen. For some inexplicable reason, I have fairly low expectations for this one... |

I've only heard a little of it, and it's not bad, I don't think. The only New Pornographers disc I really liked was Twin Cinema, the rest haven't elicited so much as a response from me. This one seemed a little better, but I have no clue at all. |

I really liked both Twin Cinema and Challenges, and never really understood why Challenges wasn't as well received... |

So House of Heroes. They've got this new album coming out tomorrow and it's $2.99 on Amazon, so I think I'm going to download it. I've been meaning to check these guys out for a while, actually, so why not? A bit operatic power pop or something. Hope it's not the best album with the word "Suburb" in the title to come out this week. But if it is, I hope it's because this is just that good. 8) |

Halfway through this House of Heroes album, and I can't help but get the feeling it should be better. It feels disjointed. The whole "loser with no chance" concept and sound is a bit...eh. But I mean, I can tell it should be better. I can't explain it right. This vocalist is great though. Already up there with Jason Gleason (Further Seems Forever, ActionReaction) and Casey Crescenzo (or something) (Dear Hunter, Receiving End of Sirens) with my favorite belters. I've read a handful of Suburbs reviews now and I couldn't tell you one damned thing about the CD. When did music reviewing become such a closed art that you need a decoder ring to figure out what they're actually saying? I just hope it's more Funeral than Neon Bible because, try as I might, that one just won't grow on me like the first did. |

Sweet. Looks like Suburbs is gonna be $4 tomorrow. Went to see if they were selling it yet (past midnight here (they're not, though)) and the price listed was 3.99. |

Suburbs. Holy cow. Love it. It does everything and goes everywhere it seems. Thoroughly Arcade Fire (why would it have been so hard for any review to mention that "hey, who'd have guessed this sounds like Arcade Fire?"), but really overreaching. I can't even wrap everything around it in a couple of listens, and I'm just overwhelmed in a sense. I mean, basically, you've got this giant...thing, and it's massively giant, but it all works, at least from a first impression. I was scared when I saw 16 tracks, but it's 1 entity, not 16 songs. I have no clue what the hell it is. I guess that makes sense from a review standpoint, but I think it's really something special, and I hope I'm right, cause I think it needs to be. |
