No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

Like that joint. Trying to distinguish the hand percussion that's being used in the song. Macbook Pro speakers suck. I need to go find my heads. |

Where dreams come to come true.

I heard this song on the radio. The "Need Your Love" or "Make Your Love" or "Find Your Love" or whatever it's called. The 808s thing was immediate. I was thinking it was Drake though I didn't know, was kind of hoping it wasn't so we could have yet another 808s influence and I could go on my way to calling 808s the classic it deserves to be. But yeah, I liked it quite a bit. |

Picked up Em's new one. Only listened to the first few tracks on the way to work. It's got potential and I've heard good things (especially in comparison to Relapse), so I've got high hopes. |

J Cole released is debut single. Still no info on an album, but I'm pretty excited. Dude had one of my all time favourite verses on the Wale CD. |

New Asian Kung-Fu Generation cd is pretty solid. All the added instruments are pretty nice in most cases. My problem is this album is such a collection of great parts that it's disappointing the whole thing can't be great. The hook in "Magic Disk" soars, the second half of "Love Story for the New Century" is more upbeat and pulsating than most of its peers, the bridge in "Goodbye Lost Generation" is gorgeous, the first time the synths kick in on "Microphone" is pretty exhilerating, and the chorus in "Rising Sun" is great. But there aren't many complete songs. It's a downer in that sense, but at the same time, it's pretty solid. I'm fine with it. Most of the songs at least offer something.

I kind of hate myself right now. Nearly made it, but a reminder from Amazon MP3 had to get me back on that stupid boat. Yes. I bought that stupid B.o.B. album. And yes, I hate myself for it. And yes, I don't know if I'll even put it on my iPod, but yes, I do own it now. Words can't describe how conflicted I am about this stupid album. :\ |

I mean, fuck...I don't know. Let's see if I can do this. This is my chance to put my ability to use my gifted articulation to somehow describe how I feel about this album. I've listened to "experimental" music that makes more sense than this album does. I can’t remember the last time an album has had me stumped like this one. I’ve heard an album and said, “What the hell am I listening to?” But this is almost a league of its own. It's because it doesn't make any goddamn sense that I just have no clue where I am. I guess to start...as a hip-hop album, this sucks. I mean, it's tragically bad, because there's very little hip-hop. As a pop album on the other hand, it's actually serviceable. But does that excuse the fact that this is supposed to be a hip-hop album? A B.o.B. album? Because it doesn't feel anything like either. I mean, B.o.B.'s got talent as a rapper. He can do it. At times it feels like this album could be a pretty decent pop-hop album if he ever actually rapped. I mean, he does on "Fame," and this song is actually pretty good, even though this is a hook so bad it makes Kid Cudi's hooks sound good. But I'm getting sidetracked. Let's just start at the beginning. I have no clue what's happening on "Don't Let Me Fall," a feel good club banger with soaring hooks and guitars, synthesizers, and this kind of Andre 3000 style that shows that B.o.B.'s got some flow. I guess when you think about it, no wonder it's such a conflict, because you know there's actual talent here being drowned in a pop album. Speaking of pop, can it be safe to say that Bruno Mars nearly gives this entire album purpose on “Nothin’ on You?” I never much cared for this song, but the radio was relentless. This thing has a strong melody. A tragedy for me is that Lupe Fiasco mails in his verse on "Past My Shades." I've never heard him sound so tired in my life. A throwaway verse with throwaway delivery on a terrible song, so it’s easy to leave that one in the dust. But from the opening lyrics Hayley Williams croons on "Airplanes," the irony of this album really begins to settle in. Does Bobby Ray realize that he’s using a MySpace queen to deliver a quintessential MySpace line? I mean, he has to get it, but I'd be deathly afraid to spill the beans because I just have no clue. Clearly though, I really think this guy's smart enough to know what he's doing. And maybe that's what concerns me, that I'm being outsmarted by B.o.B. Maybe that's where my issues with this album lie. "Bet I" offers that kind of Black Eyed Peas honesty that just makes us all want to die quickly. If I listen to a song that I have to say, "I'm not drunk enough to enjoy this," I probably shouldn't be listening to it. T.I. and Playboy Tre do some decent work in this one, however. "Ghost in the Machine" feels like it has very little redeeming value. It sounds fine, but I just don't know why you piece together a song like this right here. It soars too high. Isn't Bobby Ray familiar with the demise of Icarus? Cause Christ, there is no restraint on this piece of wax. My archnemesis on this album is "The Kids." Back to the irony gaffe, it just bothers me that Bobby Ray takes a "ghetto kids don't stand a chance" to a cut built by a group of artists who attended Columbia, and have no business being associated with a crooner about the ghetto. Furthermore, and this is where I'm concerned about being outsmarted by B.o.B., who takes the message in Vampire Weekend's "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance," and dumbs it down...so that we all can get it. It's difficult to know how to feel about that for me. And maybe I'm just complaining. Fuck, I'm doing a lot of complaining, because I'm so scared of being outsmarted by a pop record that poses as a hip-hop record that seems smart enough to capitalize on the line "Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are shooting stars / I could really use a wish right now" can be dumb enough to dumb down Vampire Weekend and associate them with something they aren't associated with. I guess I should get over it, because maybe I'm looking into this far too much. That said, Rivers Cuomo's place on this album serves no purpose, but based on the strange mid-life crisis Cuomo has gone through the past couple of years, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He seems to be having genuine fun, and damned if I get it, but damned if it's my place to get more down about this album. Is everything to this point why “Fame” actually feels like a saving grace then? Because it’s a legitimate hip-hop song (save for that terrible hook)? Because we actually hear B.o.B. explain why he’s actually got talent? I have no clue, but when the most perplexing shift on the album comes by as an acoustic guitar seriously pisses you off and makes you wonder why the hell you even care anymore. But dammit, even this song is difficult to hate. There’s some terrific harmonics in this, even though it’s basically a acoustic “Nothin’ on You” without any kind of Bruno Mars to save it. Enough of that, it’s time to some electro-pseudo hip-hop about aliens. I give up. I’m over it. By the way, “Airplanes Pt. 2” is kind of like a less pressing “Kick Push Pt. 2.” Granted, I’m using very limited knowledge base on these whole “part 2” things, but Eminem’s verse is fine. I mean, it’s Eminem in 2009-10. Okay, I give. I don’t think I can figure this one out. |

So the new Eminem is damn good. Seriously. Whatever hole he dug himself into with Relapse is completely gone and then some. I don't know what a lot of reviewers are hearing, but I think Em's back to his old form, or at least back to Eminem Show level. There's still the trademark "push the envelope" content present, but a lot of the album is more serious, and there are several references to Proof and his death. In fact, the song "You're Never Over" is all about Proof, and it's one of the best on the album. If you didn't like Relapse and thought you might be done with Em, fear no more. |

Picked up Triptykon's first album. Well, it is their only album technically. It sounds just like Tom Fischer said it would. It sounds like Celtic Frost. It could easily have a Celtic Frost sticker on it, and no one would guess that it isn't the same band. It sounds like their last album Monothiest, but a bit further progressed and a bit more experimental. I wouldn't say this is a bad thing though. Monothiest was a great album. This one is too |

Dammit. I hate when Amazon has a new MP3 I want for $10. Especially when the damned hardcopy CD is cheaper. Freaking Big Boi CD. :whatever: Also, Nappy Roots had a new CD come out? Who saw that coming? |

So they price dropped the digital booklet-less copy of Big Boi (which is just weird) and I picked it up. I'm liking it a lot. Heck, I still like this dude solo more than Andre 3K. Some of the beats aren't up to par, but this dude's voice carries everyone song on here with no problems. And of course, there's the obligatory rock crossover, but instead of making a bullcrap hybrid, he just makes them work for him. Also, no Andre 3K, but his mini-me BoB makes an appearance. |

New Street Sweeper Social Club out in August. It'll feature their cover of "Paper Planes" that everyone apparently loves so much. I'm definitely pumped. |
