Since we've been talking about it in the other thread, we may as well post our Top 10s. Feel free to hold off though if there's still stuff you've been meaning to get though. The only thing I could see making my list that I haven't gotten around to yet would be that Dave Matthews CD.

10. Dashboard Confessional "Alter the Ending"

9. Metric "Fantasies"

8. Son Volt "American Central Dust"

7. Bruce Springsteen "Working on a Dream"

6. Mos Def "The Ecstatic"

5. Wilco "Wilco (The Album)"

4. Raekwon "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2"

3. Pearl Jam "Backspacer"

2. Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"

1. Mono "Hymn to the Immortal Wind"

Like 07, my Top 5 could be Top 5 for any year because they're quite good, but the issue wasn't that there weren't any good CDs, but that there were so many mediocre ones. 5 awesome CDs is great, but the 45 other mediocre ones is not so happy. I will say it's quite bizarre to have 2 artists I don't typically like (Mos Def and Raekwon) on my Top 10 though.

I haven't gotten much of anything that came out this year, which is weird because there have been lots of CDs I've wanted that I just never got around to buying. I'll probably splurge after Christmas.

I'm relatively confident Mount Eerie's Wind's Poem won't be knocked off of the #1 seat, and think that anyone who has any interest in the Iron and Wine-ish music I adore so much NEEDS to get Sometimes I Wish I Were An Eagle by Bill Callahan. Outside of that, *shrug*. talk to me in a month or two.

Wow, I'm surprised Mono was #1 for you. I remember you thinking you liked it but didn't fall head over heels for it. So I'm interested to hear what happened to get it there. Mine right now...may not be the final list, however, but I think I'm good to go on as far as 2009 releases go, but I may make some minor changes as I come through listening to some of them one more time to see if I've got it right.

10. There Will Be Fireworks There Will Be Fireworks

9. Built to Spill There is No Enemy

8. Mew No More Stories are Told Today, I'm Sorry, They Washed Away... (not typing the whole title)

7. Manchester Orchestra Mean Everything to Nothing

6. Asobi Seksu Hush (everyone hates this record, but it's a really good dream pop record)

5. Grizzly Bear Veckatimest

4. Mono Hymn to the Immortal Wind

3. Mos Def The Ecstatic

2. Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion

1. mewithoutYou It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All a Dream! It's Alright

And I just noticed there was no Wilco. And I think I'm fine with that.

I didn't listen to enough new music to make a top 10 list. I'll just say I liked It's Blitz! by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Modest Mouse EP was pretty sweet even though it was all old songs, and I liked Kid Cudi's album. Mos Def and Animal Collective were alright too.

Headphones happened. I really liked it when I first got it (it was my favourite CD of the year at the time, but that's partially cause there wasn't much else out), but it wasn't You Are There level or anything. It was just kind Mono does Mono. Then I was listening to it on headphones one night and it all clicked. All the little things that I wasn't even noticing with it in the background on normal speakers suddenly sprang out.

Top 5 Absolute Worst Albums of the Year:

5. Third Eye Blind "Ursa Major"
"What's the difference when it goes down? If it's girls or if it's guys, can't you just close your eyes? Close your eyes, baby, close your eyes."
Also: Lesbians can't knit sweaters or watch flat screen TVs without a male lover. Who knew?

4. Bob Dylan "Together Through Life"
Just crap. And yet, it did prove the point that if it has Bob's name on it, everyone will give it phenomenal scores.

3. Cage "Depart From Me"
I think they use the chorus from Fat Kids Need An Anthem to torture Guantanamo detainees. I don't think it's possible to make it through this entire song.

2. Bon Jovi "The Circle"
A single quote can't properly convey how bad the lyrics on this CD are. I'd have to quote the whole thing. If you want to get wasted, find a group of your closest friends and each time Bon Jovi references the disenfranchised, take a shot. You should probably call a couple of ambulances beforehand though since none of you will last the album (or even "We Were Born to Follow").

1. Snoop Dogg "Malice N Wonderland"
"Mic check 0, 1, 2, 3. I don't free style cause my style ain't free." Yeah, that's a Souljah Boy line, not one of Snoop's, but I feel that's just as telling as anything else.
Nothing I can say will drive home the point better than:

And that's not even the tip of the iceberg. This album may be the single worst rap album I've ever bought. EVER.
