So we tried to go Wed afternoon, but there was a line wrapped around the bloody theatre. Yeah, on a Wed at 3 in the afternoon. It would've been 20 mins into the movie by the time we got through it (I know cause we went to the comic shop for 15 and it was still there when we came out). Then, we were gonna go this morning, but the theatre decided this morning that it's no longer going to do more than 2 evening showings for the 2-D version (yeah, after the line incident, are they serious?). And they charge extra on Fri-Sun night, so looks like I'm never seeing this stupid movie. The kicker is I wouldn't even care if it wasn't so hyped. I don't go a day without seeing someone shouting its praises (which is getting REALLY annoying. C'mon people, it can't be THAT good). Honestly, the movie looks kind of corny to me. But, I know if I don't go and then see it on DVD and love it, I'll be kicking myself. |

My head is too big for 3D glasses. I almost had a seizure during the Polar Express at the IMAX because the color lenses didn't properly cover my eyes. |

You'll probably be safe. I've had others tell me 3D had always gave them headaches or made them dizzy, but it seems they use a whole new technology now- it's no longer the Red/Blue lenses that you may be used to. The 3D glasses they use now have slightly grayed lenses and don't seem to have adverse effects on the same people who had trouble with the red/blue lenses. But, you can watch it without 3D if you must. ...and you probably already have, I have yet to read past your first post in this thread. :P |

You're probably not gonna like that the plot is sort of a rip off. Think Sci-fi Pocahontas. Visually though, it IS amazing. The attention to detail is astounding. |

SPOILER ALERT Never heard of that. I have heard of people complaining that it is a movie about American soldiers invading a paradise to gather its resources then by the end all of the Americans are either killed or being hauled off to jail. Edited by DarkCloudLives, Jan 5 2010, 02:26 PM.

 @ "The Racist Card." We live in the most hypersensitive country on the planet. At least compared to the other ones I've been to/lived in. |

There are a lot of parallels in Avatar. Some intentional and probably a few that weren't. I read today that people were criticizing Cameron because Sigourney Weavers character smoked-to which he somehow came back with the idea that it was an allegory of gamers today who get too wrapped up in their games and online "avatars." Something about how gamers disregard their real bodies and care more about their virtual personas just as Weaver's character cared more about her avatar body than her own. imo Something so convoluted as that was just spur of the moment BS, but who knows.... |

I haven't watched Avatar, yet, so I haven't read this thread...but I did find this interesting: http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/11/avatar.movie.blues/index.html I heard that there wasn't much to the story; maybe I was wrong? Hopefully I can fit it in next weekend and see for myself. |

Aight. I just got back from watching it. Went on a date night with the Mrs. while my aunt watched the kids.. Ok, so I saw it in 3D. I hate 3D, it never really works for me the way I think it is supposed to. Maybe because my head is so large. Anyway, the 3D wasn't so bad. Especially because the entire film isn't in 3D. Some stuff is just normal. Anyway, the effects were dope. The graphics were pretty dope if you are into that sort of thing.... However, the story is absolutely corn, yo. Especially the main antagonist. I felt like I was watching G.I. Joe, the Rise of Colonel Cornball. The story is delivered thru the characters. And unfortunately some of the main ones like him or so over the top that they aren't believable. They definitely went the comic book route with this one and I think it was a bad move. But, it was a nice outing with the Mrs. nonetheless. We got to spend the drive home making jokes about how ridiculous some of the scenes were. OH!!! AND FOR THE COTTON PICKIN RECORD!!! NOBODY USING PROPER RADIO PROCEDURES IN THE MILITARY SAYS "COPY" TO ACKNOWLEDGE SOMETHING!! "COPY" IS ONLY USED WHEN ACTUAL COPYING OF INFORMATION ONTO PAPER IS NECESSARY OVER RADIO TRANSMISSION!!!!! Just a pet peeve of mine that EVERY movie with a military aspect has. |

Sidenote. The Female main character brings a slight redemption to the film. Her story and character were handled very well. 8) |

That's pretty much exactly what I thought from looking at the previews and why I haven't been that excited to see it. As to copy, just because the US military doesn't use it, doesn't mean that it's not used by other people operating over radio transmissions. Moreover, why would you assume that 150 years from now a human military force would adopt voice procedure from the 2009 US military? |

Yeah. Unless you are really into crazy awesome graphics, you can pass on it. The 3D experience didn't seem to make a difference to me. It seemed as if it would be very similar in regular D. And the story, while addressing a very serious issue, fumbles in its delivery and comes across as very corny and oversimplified. I can go into some pretty good detail about how characters are not developed or scripted to act the way soldiers would act in the face of killing. In simple terms... It's the typical American Cowboys (good guys) vs Indians (bad guys). Just as you called it. The difference is that the Indians are the good guys in this film. |
